Council Meeting, February 9, 1963
The meeting was opened by Mayor Protem Williams.
Answering roll call were J. J. Crlile, John R. Tate,
Paul Schell, W. H. Crumbaker. Marshall Keller Austin
was also present.
all Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
Mayor Stevenson arrived and at the insistence of 1,4r. Williams,
assumed charge of the meeting.
A general discussion included the possibility of
the city increasing its' boundaries to include all or a
portion of the intervening space on highways 1709 and 114
between the now existing bounds of S®uthlake and Westlake
and Keller, respectively. Mayor Stevenson suggested that the
Mayors and council of these two towns be apprised of the
intent and reasons therefor, to see if they were interested
in absorbing half the distance on their respective highway.
The two main reasons advanced for considering this annexation
1. to eliminate the possibility of an "outside" interest doing
so in the future 2. to enablethe marshal to more effectively
deal with traffic violators--at the present they reach this
area of "no-man's land" before they can be apprehended.
C,*uncilmen were 100% in attendance and each one expressed
approval for negotiations for such annexation be started.
The secretary was instructed to write Messrs. McGuire (W.stlake)
and Knox (Keller) and obtain an opinion from Ivr. Ben McClure
on the feasibility of such from a legal standpoint.

Resolution Number 21 fcr an election to be held on
April 2, 1963 was adopted on motion of J. R. Tate, seconded
by Paul Schell. At this time, mayor and councilmen for
places 1 and 2 will be voted upon.
The secretary was instructed to write dir. W. A. Esslinger
of the Southwestern States Telephone Company in regard to certain
interruptions of service, which were not given due consideration
in being repaired, or restored. Specifically, this had to do
with holding up repairs on service to the Paul Schell residence on Labor day week-end when the service was out for several days
(due to lightening) and in J?nuary due to north wind of gale
like force.
R
The need to repair the city hall sign was again discussed
R
but no specific action taken.
On motion of J. J. Carlile, meeting adjourned.
