1962-02-17 City of Southlake - Meeting February 17, 1962 . The regular meeting of the City Council was held at 2 PM in the City Hall. Mayor John Stevenson called the meeting to order and the following councilman answered roll call: C. M. Gordon, John Cope, J. J. Carlile, Earl Williams. Also present were Marshal Keller Austin and the secretary. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Mention was made of the balance of cash in the checking account in First National Bank, Grapevine. After general discussion, motion was made by John Cope, seconded by Earl Williams, that aIL additional five hundred dollars be deposited in the Tarrant Savings and Loan Account. Motion carried and the secretary issued a check as instructed. Mayor Stevenson read a letter concerning the handling of traffic offenses and accidents which occur in Southlake bounds. A general discussion ensued and Marshal Austin was a advised to continue his usual vigilance especially in relation to school buses vs. cars. Mayor Stevenson pointed out that the children should be alerted to their responsibility in o alighting from busses, also, and Mr. Earl Williams and Mr. 001 Austin were delegated to bring such emphasis to the children y at Carroll School in the best way possible--film in assembly, u etc. Mr. Gordon was the unanimous selection for Chairman of Civil Defense. He agreed to undertake a more exhaustive study n of the needs of Civil Defense in this area. C ®w A proposed resolution which had to do with a forthcoming election was read. C. M. Gordon made a motion to accept the resolution as written; motion seconded by Earl Williams, and carried. Thus, Resolution Number 19 was added to the permanent rewords of the City. The election was designated for April 3, 1962 for the purpose of electing Councilman to Places 3, 4, 5 and for the unexpired term of Councilman Wade Cummings, Place 1 who had recently resigned because of moving to Arizona. Election Judge was designated as L. T. Cathcart, with two clerks, Mrs. Cleo Howard and Mrs. Mable Cate. The City Attorney was notified to order the election supplies. ' Mr. Austin was delegated to arrange for a sign "City Hall" to be placed over the door of the City's quarters, and a. a larger one reading City of Southlake, City Hall to be placed at the entrance of Casey's driveway, in order that the quarters might be easily found. , On motion of C. Cummings who has resigned in place 1, from April 3. 1962, or until their suesessors are duly elected and qualified.
