Minutes of January 2, 1968
The Southlake City Council Meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. in the new
rr., City Municipal Building by Mayor J. L. Clow. Councilmen present were Thurman
Hearn, J. J. Carlile, J. D. Cate and Earl williams. Ben McClure, City Attorney
was also present.
The minutes of the December 19, 1967 meeting were read and approved.
49 Mayor Clow advised the city secretary to have Tax Ordinance No. 147 published
in the Grapevine Sun newspaper. City attorney,Ben McClure, stated that he
would file Ordinance No. 149 at the County Court House.

The secretary gave a report on the budget and Mayor Clow gave a very favorable
inspection report on the New Municipal Building. Roy 0. Morris signed the
inspection report with this notation. "Good Job - neat - well built. This
will be a great asset to the community."
Acceptance of gas franchise from Lone Star was looked over by each councilman
,e and city attorney advised Mayor Clow to ask Lone Star to publish this in the
Grapevine Sun newspaper as they agreed to do previously. They had had it
published in the Grapevine Herald.
m A tax assessor was discussed by the council and they felt that Mr. Whiteside
should be asked to serve in this capacity under terms of salary already dis-
cussed with him if he is still agreeable.

Mr. Hargadine was present to present to the council the problems of the Zoning
Committee. He suggested that the Zoning and Planning Committees work together
s under one head. Mayor Clow asked Mr. C. M. Gordon if he would serve in this
capacity. He agreed to become chairman of the Planning and Zoning Committee.
ar The next order of business was to purchase furniture for the new Municipal
Building. Tables, file cabinets and a telephone were discussed. Earl Williams
made a motion to purchase two folding table. J. J. Carlile seconded the motion.
J. D. Cate made a motion to purchase 3 four drawer file cabinets. Thurman Hearn
49 seconded the motion. J. D. Cate made a motion that we have a telephone installed
in the Municipal building. Earl Williams seconded the motion. On all three
motions the council voted unanimously in favor.

Thurman Hearn made a motion that the water Commissioner's salary be increased
to $350.00 per month. Earl williams seconded the motion. There were 3 votes
for and 1 abstains. J. D. Cate made a motion to increase the city secretary's
' salary to $60 per month. J. J. Carlile seconded the motion. It carried
unanimously.
After discussions of the many problems of city hall and the future of the
Planning Board, Mr. Carlile made the motion that the council adjourn. Earl
Williams seconded the motion and all voted yes.
