1967-06-20 Regular Council meeting City of Southlake L June 20, 1967 The meeting was called to order by Nayor Paul Schell. Councilmen present were, J. D. Cate Les Clow u,„ DSEarl Williams Also present was Jerry *elaen of the B. L. Nelson firm. Mr. Clayton asked the council to approve a permit for a pre-fab portable store building to be operated as a grocery store dealing in freight damaged and other food items. Mr. Clayton was instructed to take his request to the planning and zoning committee. He was told that he might store his wares in his garage for now but that he must not use it as a store until permission from the zoning board is given. Mr. Doug Moore asked if a swimming pool ordinance had been found. The council agreed to look into this further. It was reported that there had been no progress this week on the new City building. Notice of a special meeting to be held on July 11, 1967 at 7:30 pm to canvas the votes of the bond election was announced. Also notice that the next regular council meeting would be held on Thursday night July 6 because of the 4th of July falling on the regular council night. The secretary was instructed to put a notice in the newspaper to this effect the week before the meeting and also a notice in the Post Office. There was a discussion on how the count on the municipal gas appli- cations were coming in. Mr. Schell discussed the letter mailed out by the council to further inform the citizens of the advantages of ' a municipally owned gas system. Councilman Les Clow said that if there was a representative turn out on the bond election and it indi- cated that the citizens by a large majority did not favor the municipal "R system that he for one would like to reconsider the situation. It was decided that the secretary would make out the checks for the Chief of Police at the last regular meeting. His day off is to be Vvednesday. A motion was made to pay Mr. Richardson $475.00 a month for 90 days and to increase to $500.00 at the end of that time if both the city and Mr. Richardson are satisfied. Also he would be given a $20.00 a month uniform allowance. Mr. Richardson is to pay for his uniforms and the cleaning of same. The motion carried unanimously. rri , i Regular Council Meeting June 20, 1967 Mayor Schell discussed a letter he had drafted to send to the citizens of Southlake just previous to the Bond election. The gist of the letter is to encourage the people to consider the future needs of the city and the cost of same. That the revenue from a municipally owned gas system can help defray these expenses. That this bond election is a definite way the citizens of Southlake can postpone ad valorum taxes. The secretary was instructed to write a letter to the Texas Municipal League to request information on building codes and especially rates for a city of this size.
