Mr. J.R. Stone
list rict. lingineer
State Department of Highway and Public Transportation
P.O. Box 6868
Fort Worth, texas W IS
Dear Mr. Stone:
I would like to express in behaI f of the City of Southlake, my concern
over the re-routing of Highway 17H9 traffic onto South lake Blvd. between
Short Avenue and State Highway 114, This re-routing was not coordinated
with the City prior to the time it was implemented, highway 1709 is a
pr i ma rv roadway carrying heavy traffic between Grapevine and Keller areas,
this hc;rvy traffic is now using Southlake Blvd, between State highway 114
and Short Ave, Southlake Blvd, in this particular area is a secondary
street with heavy traffic normally prohibited. As a result of the heavy
traffic now he ing exper•ienccd, the deterioration of South lake Blvd, in
that area in a Inatte1, of great co11 cer11.
The City of South Iake does not have the funds or physical resources to
r-efurhish the Street- when State Highway 114 is again reopened. In view
of this, it is rctt"nsted that upon completion of the rework of State
Highway 1 11, that the `state Highway Department and/or the contractor
i nvo l ved r~ cur l ac c r,ut h1 ake h d . between Highway 114 and Short Ave, at
no cost to the laity of .`iunilllAkc.
am r;reatIy concerned over the Ia,1, ol. coordination between the contractor,
State I I i g I I way 1) e par IIIIeIIt and the tai ty of Soul111AC over the re-routing and
handl ilAy of t raff is during the current period of corrstruCtion; over the
haZIrdolls traffic safety prohlenrs; the traffic loads being placed on a
secondary strcct, not engineered or surfaced to handle the traffic load whzc
is creating a hardship the laity is unable to resolve.
I would appreciate your Cavorable consideration of this matter and an early
reply.
Sincerely,
ty ul SoUtIII e
