Item 9B - Staff ReportItem 9B S0UTHLA1<-E PLANNING & DEVELOPMENT SERVICES STAFFREPORT August 25, 2025 CASE NO: SV25-0007 PROJECT: Sian Variance for Buraer Kin EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Fire Restaurants Management LLC is requesting approval of sign variances to Sign Ordinance No 704-J, as amended, for two signs: a Freestanding Order Sign/Canopy and a menu board sign at their business located at 125 N Kimball. DETAILS: The applicant is requesting a variance from the Sign Ordinance to allow two existing signs to remain in place: a Freestanding Order Sign/Canopy and a menu board. During staff's review of the property, it was determined that the menu board differs from what was originally permitted, and that both signs were installed without the required permits. A variance is required for the Freestanding Order Sign/Canopy because this type of sign is not permitted under current regulations. Additionally, the menu board lacks the required masonry surrounding the sign face. Approval of the variance would allow the applicant to retain both signs in their current condition. (SV10- 001) SIGN BOARD: August 21, 2025; Approved (3-2; Springer, Gunter) subject to the Staff Report dated August 21, 2025, recommending that the applicant submit conforming sign applications before the upcoming City Council meeting. CITY COUNCIL: STAFF COMMENTS: City Council approval of this request does not waive the requirement to obtain a sign permit prior to installation. All signage must be reviewed and approved through the City's permitting process before any installation takes place.
