In Southlake, the park architecture is beautiful and the grass and greenery always looks fresh 5A-12 (Q3) In your opinion, what is the biggest need in Southlake regarding parks, recreation, and open space? More water fountains as it can get quiet hot in the summer time. Small lights would be nice so children can play even when it's a little dark Having more community events hosted at parks or having parks more publicized. There isn't much to do in some of the parks concession stands, cleaner bathrooms, increased security Open space to fly a kite, play games, run and picnic. More walking spaces with nature. No needs Designated running/jogging/walking routes in the larger parks - i.e. Bob Jones. Create additional park use other than soccer, softball, baseball activities. More open space and walking area (trails/sidewalks) We need more. We should establish a land trust that buys and places in trust as much green space as possible to stop becoming a total concrete jungle. Matching the population growth. More walking trails closer to central Southlake Very limited facilities for those who just want to kick a ball around or play soccer with their kids or friends. Everything is geared toward leagues. Very little for spontaneous play. Trails Continue to maintain at the current level. Encourage visitors to keep dogs on a leash. For City leaders to understand that sidewalks are not bike paths or bike trails. There is not one bike path on a road in the city of Southlake and leaders want to apply for a bike friendly certification. Funny. We do not need more construction. We need places to run and enjoy nature more parks and open space and less commercial development Marked running paths, restrooms Bike trails Open up the use of the ball diamonds, especially at Bicentennial Park. 5A-13 (Q3) In your opinion, what is the biggest need in Southlake regarding parks, recreation, and open space? We spent the day at Bob Jones on President's Day and there is SOOOOO much potential there. Love trails and nature walks. The parks need to be connected via walk access or paths like in Grapevine. Bob Jones Nature Center needs a little more love from the city. Please fix the barn which is falling down from neglect Irrigate the plantings around the house and have more classes there.. Sidewalks to get around town safely. Bike lanes More open space! Put in some area between our buildings with space. More/better dog parks. Grapevine just built a beautiful one off 360 with turf, a splash pad and clean restrooms. A far cry from the fenced in space at Bob Jones. Larger open spaces (without baseball fields, soccer fields, etc.). More trails through natural areas. Mobility issues. Bike paths, lane, and trails needed. Need open space like a true park. Bike lanes on North White Chapel More trees, please. Also, I am in no way, shape or form in favor of any kind of religious "chapel" being built in Bob Jones Nature Center. Keep religion out of our public spaces, I don't care how "non -denominational" you try to label it. We could use better rec opportunities for tweens and teens. Also, very unimpressed with Champions Club. So small, it's like working out in someone's garage, the pool is badly designed for exercise. I hope the courts are getting good use by rec leagues but we canceled our membership and went to larger, better equipped facilities. More public fishing, upkeep on natural fields Would love some wide trails for hiking, biking Keeping every park we own and continuing to grow greenspace ownership by city to preserve green areas of possible. Skate & BMX park. Hiking trails Preserve farm land More parks, Walking, biking paths None More spaces like Bicentennial Park-- it is often too crowded Children's Programs Place to fish (catch and release, bird watch, purple martin colonies, community garden, wildlife habit improvement programs. Police patrols/tickets for dogs off leash Parks should be spaces within developments that are convenient to walk to and maintained by HOA's not tax dollars. I'd love more open space and have to think we do not need any more development (neighborhoods/office parks, etc). In terms of existing parks and fields, there seem to be some real drainage issues that make them take forever to dry out. 5A-14 (Q3) In your opinion, what is the biggest need in Southlake regarding parks, recreation, and open space? Shady areas to stop and enjoy the views, watch kids play, eat a picnic, relay, etc. More play parks! More playgrounds needed especially near neighborhoods! It would be awesome if they added small parks that families could walk to from home. Golf course. More water features Lessen the costs burden on HOA's. When the PUBLIC park is in an HOA and something breaks, the HOA carries all of the financial burden. It would be great if the City would budget to share at least 50% of the costs to maintain public parks. Open space in areas that are congested like 1709 and 114. If we don't buy the land now,the developers will get it and develop every inch of it. Parks are underutilized. An effort to make community events can be considered as big need. Biggest need is to preserve preserve preserve and put trails in place to have residents access them. This improves the quality of life greatly for us. We all work hard and to avoid our town becoming a concrete jungle is top priority. Preserving trees is SO important to keeping our city cool in temperature and a beautiful place to be. More trees and natural space, updated playgrounds Bob Jones needs to be cleared and trails need to be re -marked. That is our favorite trails. We really don't have an open park close to Town Square! It would be so fun to have Movie Nights in the summer... Non sports specific parks. Open space for play is needed. The prime location is Bicentennial. There is baseball, hockey rink, tennis, and basketball, but it lacks open space for families/picnics/bike riding. The baseball fields cannot be used unless you have a boy and play in DYB. Bicentennial should have sand volleyball, fields that families can enjoy the outdoors, and bike trails. an interactive map (maybe it already exists, if so, it isn't easy to find) I would love to have some interesting walking/hiking trails. In addition, I would love to have a children's playground and pavilion rentals in the Southlake town square. I think this would help increase foot traffic in the town square. certain areas lack any type of green space, yet the opportunities to build out exist (e.g. Continental near Kimball). More dog -friendly space Parks should be a place for residents to walk/walk their dogs/play frisbee/have picnics. Southlake is really lacking in that area. McPherson Park in Colleyville is the way a park should be. I've been there on weekends and have seen parties in the picnic pavillion; walkers; people using the open spaces. It's a great place for residents to go. Southlake needs to consider more open space that has no other purpose (or money -making capabilities) that can be used for relaxation and walks. 5AI S (Q3) In your opinion, what is the biggest need in Southlake regarding parks, recreation, and open space? More trash pickup, the trash cans get full on weekends and don't get emptied until Monday when staff are back in office. Not sure More walking trails, basketball courts and other sport courts Keeping open spaces. Construction is taking over open spaces, and cutting down trees. Would love to have more parks and open spaces. More nature Hikes Trails Hybrid of entertainment for kids and adults Mobility and open space park. It's doesn't exist in Southlake. Sorry, I don't consider ball fields to be true open space. City Leaders need to focus on all citizens and not special interest (sports associations). A HUGE and amazing area for residents to come together. The city needs a park to actually enjoy the outdoors with multiple amenities. Parks with open spaces for multiple uses. Parr Park in Grapevine has bike trails and fields for multi use. Southlake does not have multi use fields/open spaces. Fields are dominated my youth sports leagues. Parks to run, ride bikes, and enjoy open spaces. Most parks are youth sports related. There is not a park that you can play sports, ride bikes, and have a picnic. Strange I wish there were more parks and open spaces in Southlake. Perhaps the total area of parks appears sufficient on paper, but a bulk of it is in the northern area of Southlake. For example, Bob Jones Park is massive but the southern part of the city doesn't have as much open public spaces. Passive open space and public art Bike trails for kids!! We go down to Keller's Bear Creek trails or over to Grapevine Lake. Mobility and availability. Connect parks via bike paths and bike lanes. Make the city more MOBILE. Stop locking fields. Create biking trails like neighboring cities have. Maintenance. Royal and Annie Smith has trees covered in vines for years and no one has trimmed them out to the point they are killing the trees. Seems Southlake can not decide how to maintain grass wither. Keep going back and forth on how much they cut. More open space! Compared to all of our neighbors, we have little to no recreational trails or bike paths. Personally I would like some water stations and possibly bathroom locations along the long trails behind Bob Jones Park. More trees, flowers, shrubs etc The parks, that I know of, are mostly on one side of the city and the other side (South of 1709) kinda doesn't. I'm not sure that there are very many needs More vegetation Greater accessibility I think that Southlake's parks don't need much more. If I have to put something I would say that there could be more open space. 5A-1 5 (Q3) In your opinion, what is the biggest need in Southlake regarding parks, recreation, and open space? There is a need for longer running trails, and also a larger free swimming pool. Better bathrooms More sidewalks and bike trails needed. Generally should be more accessible for people without cars(more bikes etc.) We don't need anything More trails More of them I think there should be more areas that aren't designed for sports areas (lacrosse/baseball fields), but rather areas that are inviting and would allow people to spend time. There needs to be more access to open plots of land. Also, I hope for there to be mor biking trails. More signs with rules and making sure that people have proper disposal bins in order to preserve our environment. It would be nice if there were more side walks so that people can ride or walk their bikes. In order for Southlake to truly thrive it needs to be family oriented, which it is, but we can do better. By increasing the amount of parks and recreational activities Southlake is able to embrace more children and families. I think maybe making it more fun for kids to hang out and maybe having more events. More family oriented recreational spaces 5A-17 (Q4) If any, what barriers prevent you from using parks in the City of Southlake? None No barriers prevent me None Time some areas are closed off for open use There are no sand volleyball courts that are lighted and maintained in Southlake. Uncleanliness, poor lit, safety Personally, there are no barriers for me. Time; as a high school student, I don't have a lot of free time, but when I do, I'd spend it at a park Distance None The FUAs restrict our ability to use a field when desired. We should consider the option of residents being able to reserve field space when they are not being used. none None that I can think of. None None None Would prefer to be able to walk from our house to parks, but there isn't always sidewalk near parks Walk ability of streets No parks in close proximity to where we live (SE Southlake) Only that the nature area is a far drive Signs threatening to fine me for using them since I don't belong to a sanctioned league. Not knowing what trails are available Dogs not on a leash. Mobility - if Southlake, you have to drive your car everywhere. There not not any safe crossings across 1709. There are not trails. The cities solution is a 10 year plan for sidewalks. This would have worked with on road paths, bike trails, and safe crossings. Sidewalks and parking places not really Lack of sidewalks from our neighborhood N/A The ball diamonds are always locked up. Locks on everything. No barriers. Unless you want to walk around in circles, they don't have any long distances. The Marc is overpriced by comparison to LA Fitness, 24 hour, etc. none but my own lack of time management skill None 5A-18 (Q4) If any, what barriers prevent you from using parks in the City of Southlake? Nothing! None none Locks on city fields. Baseball and softball - locked up tight. n/a Not enough shade during the hot months. None None None! Pedestrian access. I cannot get to each park without driving. Trails are not peaceful None none none None None None I only use the parks that are conveniently located to me. No barriers exist Proximity/sidewalks (it's nice to be able to walk or ride bikes); sports fields are frequently closed or at least that is the perception. They are nicely maintained but the running joke is that's because it rains once drop and they are closed. Northpark, SSC, and certain fields at Bicentennial in particular seem to take forever to dry out. Goose poop on the grass! Most of the nice play parks are on one side of town.... wold love one near Continental/Kimball area Need more biking trail. Distance NA no Parks are greens spaces for communities. Given the number of subdivisions, priority should be given increasing the number of green spaces. Parking and accessibility for liberty park is a problem. It could be a lovely place for a skatepark or an amazing older child playground that is a different option from north park playground which is only for little toddlers. A very underutilized peice of land that would enhance use for north end Southlake residents. None Na Mobility - Listen. As much as you post on social media that you are working on mobility; the City is not. Schools and parks are not connected. Sidewalks next to 1709 are not that great. No trails or decent sidewalks North/South. Just time to do so 5A-1 9 (Q4) If any, what barriers prevent you from using parks in the City of Southlake? None easy access, sidewalks None Bob Jones doesn't allow dogs on the trails. Horses okay, but not dogs. Really? Because other cities are far more open to walkers and dog -walkers, we rarely use Southlake parks which is a real shame. I would love to see more walking trails (real ones) in Southlake. Parking at Bicentennial is an issue on weekend with baseball tournaments. I have a very hard time finding trail maps online. Access to these would help. Also, a map with indicators where each park is located would be helpful to find parks. None None None Parks have been primarily designed for kids only and most of them are for a specific sport. Accessibility- most park fields are locked. Southlake is a vehicle required town. Traffic concerns impact everything. Frustration - funds go based on the city leadership and there interest. Surveys are given which is great, but no action is done. Mobility keeps coming up and sidewalks are the city's solution. It's really sad. Most parks are specific to a sport. All parks need a car to drive too. There are not barriers, but only a specific reason to go to a park. AND - most parks you have to be part of a league to enjoy them. Bicentennial is amazing, but DYB controls it. It sits empty 90% of the time. So unfortunate. 1) Lack of parks for families to play 2) Lack of connectivity from neighborhoods to parks. You have to DRIVE your car to get anywhere in Southlake. 3) Youth sports fields that cost millions of tax money to build are not accessible to citizens. Most fields are locked and controlled by the city. Southlake doesn't have a good mobility plan or bike trail system. Unfortunately the current city leadership believes mobility means side walks on 1709 and other roads. Sometimes the traffic is too busy to take kids to parks after school if it is is rush hour. none None. We're big park people. Locks on batting cages. Locks on fields. Lack of mobility to get to the parks. don't want to drive to get to a park. I would like to use bike paths and bike lanes. Please know your pedestrian sidewalks are not bike lanes or bike paths. None Most are hard to get to without a car 5A-20 (Q4) If any, what barriers prevent you from using parks in the City of Southlake? Not being able to walk my dog and shoot photography in Bob Jones Nature Preserve, at the same time. It is permitted in Colleyville Nature Center so I go there instead. I feel that what prevents me from using the park is my busy schedule. However, I feel that if the park was more aesthetically pleasing( the park in Southlake is really nice, I love it). By 'more aesthetically pleasing' I mean that it would be nice to have a little bit more color, for example, different varieties of flowers, more pathways for walking, trails, waterfalls, etc. There are none that I can think of the only barriers i can think of are either the weather or a lack of leisure time, which are not things that can be improved by the city of Southlake. I don't have a lot of free time to go to parks Lack of leisure time, parks are not a walkable distance from my house I mostly don't attend parks often because I am busy with school and simply don't have a lot of time. Travel to the parks and weather conditions prevent use of them. Also fees included at the Marq Southlake may prohibit a population of Southlake. Transportation More bike/pedestrian access to parks that are centrally located. Generally require car to get to. Nothing Transportation You have to drive to most of them, and they aren't that close or connected to communities There are no current barriers for me. Typically I don't have much time apart from school and other activities to spend a lot of time there. At the current moment none, but for younger kids lack of transportation. None Location of parks as they aren't very widespread. I think sometimes it's not as fun for older teens. No barriers 5A-21 (Q5) If you woke up tomorrow and five (5) years had passed, and it was suddenly the year 2025 in Southlake, what are a couple things you hope are offered regarding parks, recreation, and open space that may not be offered today? This could include programs, facilities, amenities, etc. Water refill stations In 5 years I would want there to be lights in places where there are basketball courts or fields Having more water fountains available at park would reduce the use of plastic water bottles (less littering) and makes going to parks more convenient. More water fountains dog park, more open public use areas not just for scheduled teams Sand volleyball courts at bicentennial Sand volleyball tournaments for adults and juniors Open spaces in the city (not out at the lake) to chill, fly a kite, play cornhole, washers, spikeball, family time. Food trucks and outdoor fun events at bicentennial/marq (ie: cornhole tournaments, concerts, etc) Dedicated bike lanes on the road out by the lake City maintained/budgeted 100%. No city park/green spaces should be maintained partially or the responsibility of private citizens. I hope there would be more walking areas/ open spaces away from traffic. More parks around the city so that it'd be within a one to two-mile distance from everyone in Southlake More space, water bottle filling stations, trails, more trees or grass Dragon stadium renovation, new shops that are in compliance with public demands, continued maintenance of existing facilities such as the marq A skate park and sand volleyball courts more bike/walking paths more recreational areas. I would hope that they would finally have latches on the gates at the dog park. My puggle is able to open the gates since they swing shut but don't latch. I am really happy with what we have, so well maintained parks and Champions Club. Outdoor water park and pool like Grapevine Gathering places for all ages to sit, talk and play. Park focal points w specialized treatment (i.e. paving, vegetation, fountain, etc). Community garden and/or botanical garden. Another dog park. More hiking/running trails The small farms have been purchased by the city, lots of trees planted, wildlife refuges created Like question 3 - that the park space grows at the same rate of residents and businesses. More walking trails in central southlake Areas open to the citizens of Southlake to play soccer, softball, football etc on a random day without having to be under the auspices of a sanctioned league. Let them play! Let them play! Let them play! More trails, activities that connect families to nature Continued progress in adding parks and park facilities. Continued excellence in maintenance. 5A-22 (Q5) If you woke up tomorrow and five (5) years had passed, and it was suddenly the year 2025 in Southlake, what are a couple things you hope are offered regarding parks, recreation, and open space that may not be offered today? This could include programs, facilities, amenities, etc. A city council that has a true master plan that connects parks with multiple ways. Parks that are not sport specific and can't access fields. A few places for resources. Parr Park - open space and bike trails connecting neighborhoods. River Legacy in Arlington - open space for families and trails connecting neighborhoods. Please address mobility or leave office so someone else can. Sidewalks are not the total solution. Only part of the solution. Open spaces with a place to do picnic and BBQ, places to go camping, water park for the summer, bike tracks and walking tracks, fields to play with the ball, a place to share with the family and friends (like in Grapevine) -bigger than Bicentenial park and closer to 1709 More hiking trails that are not sidewalks along roads. Shaded running paths, restrooms at bob jones park Adult soccer leagues, ice skating rink The ball diamonds would actually be used for baseball. Tournaments would be played in Southlake. To think the possible revenue. The ball diamonds would be turf. Great question! Would love to see more parks, more trails. A cohesive network that has bike paths, walking, dog access, and consideration of the utilization of the Marc. That BJNC would be open full time with many activities. That there will be more open space and less buildings, that there would be a a connected trail system . What happened to the trails? Land for all to use - not every current open property covered by cement Outdoor friendly options for transportation - bike paths - sidewalks I can't think of a thing, except the ongoing upkeep. I'd like to see our areas maintained. Better trail system and more dog parks. More miles of connected trails that go through natural areas. Somewhere to escape from the noise and business. Think Central Park. Bike trails. Fields unlocked. Open space for picnic. Frisbee golf. Just YouTube top 10 bike cities for ideas. That will get you started. It would be nice if the concession stands weren't so out of the way during soccer season at Bob Jones. It would work better if it was in the center of the fields. Other than that, I think the Parks & Rec group does a fine job ... one of the best in north Texas. More trees. Better lighting at night. Tween and Teen work out classes. Interesting lecture series for adults on a variety of topics. Classes for adults in leisure activities, like painting, bridge or Mahjong. Natural trails, continued beautiful grass fields More wide paved trails 5A-23 (Q5) If you woke up tomorrow and five (5) years had passed, and it was suddenly the year 2025 in Southlake, what are a couple things you hope are offered regarding parks, recreation, and open space that may not be offered today? This could include programs, facilities, amenities, etc. More green space, more park space. Population is growing here, so more parks are needed. Everything is wonderful here, just would like to continue to see that growth of parks programs and green space in the next five years. Skate & BMX park. Not everyone plays mainstream sports. Preserve farmland None I'd like to see more native landscaping. The city must spend a fortune landscaping and watering. More parks, less stores, more sidewalks Bob Jones Nature Center is still there and the grass that is needed by migrating birds has been replaced so that they return to the Nature Center in droves Bicycle paths, connecting paths to all parks, identifies paths and walking distances, park and walk challenges, regularly scheduled events, purple Martin colonies and bluebird trails at all parks, Outdoor pools. Better group fitness classes at the Marq (current classes stink!). The City would have required developers to have more open space within their developments. It seems to be too late now, that ship has sailed. We could use a few more turf fields (am I complaining too much about drainage?! :) ), I'd love another dog park besides Bob Jones, and this may be outside your purview, but any chance we can get composting at Bob Jones? I'd love to have more programming supportive of environmentally conscious efforts. I'm all in for the city's discussions of buying up land so I hope to see that happen in order to curb development (although I understand bond concerns as well as potential tax loss concerns). More parks (usable parks), playgrounds, and open spaces that are accessible for walkers and bikers fit the family friendly experience of living in Southlake. none Better/bigger classes at the Marq.... Golf course and more biking trails. Programs. I wish Champions Club had a large outdoor pool Bike trails with bike repair tools, like the one in Lakeside in Flower Mound. In the park next to the new SL Public Library, a bronze bench with a sitting Albert Einstein that people can sit next to and have their photo taken, a tourism opportunity. Family restrooms that allow family members of opposite gender to help those in wheelchairs use the facilities. Exercise stations on sidewalk paths. More park benches along the sidewalks for resting and visiting in the parks. Encourage weekend family kite flying and picnics in larger open park space. Regularly check the security cameras in the parks to make sure they are focused in the correct direction, and properly working. 5A-24 (Q5) If you woke up tomorrow and five (5) years had passed, and it was suddenly the year 2025 in Southlake, what are a couple things you hope are offered regarding parks, recreation, and open space that may not be offered today? This could include programs, facilities, amenities, etc. programs for empty nesters but not yet seniors. Open space in congested areas. Would love to have an outdoor venue for music like Chastain Park in Atlanta. Serene gardens for meditating Programs for the community such as music at the park, educational opportunities (native plants, animals) Skatepark, a tiered grassy amphitheater space for families & teens to hang out, especially walking paths. Preserving a small town feel is top priority . That is what has made Southlake special but we are losing that feel. Outdoor music venue, more trees and vegetation. Dog parks We keep the cows, donkeys, trails, and green space. DFW is crazy overdeveloped Additional adult programs (flag football, volleyball, floor hockey, 5K races, bicycle events). 1/2 of Bicentennial dedicated to open space. Forward thinking leaders that embrace healthy initiatives. Connect major bike paths like the Cotton Belt to do our share in DFW. Or connect paths from Keller. More sidewalks to get there, a really good map to show me where the walking and horse trails are More interesting hiking/walking trails, a kids playground and pavilions in the town square easy access by foot (i.e. sidewalks), more playgrounds. shaded areas for the summer. More space for dogs There is too much emphasis on making money in Southlake (the Marq is a case in point). And all the sports facilities fall into this. We need more parks that are open and wild with trails, and primarily undeveloped. I'd like to see more options for adults. All of the kids options are great but as a city' demographic changes, as ours will in 5-10 years, all of the families with kids will leave the nest and there has to be things for the empty nesters to do ... not Senior Center but those 40-50. Most of the men will still be working, it's the Stay at Home Moms with nothing to do and no kids to care for that need options. With the way technology is changing so quickly, I guess I'd like to see Parks still in existence in 2035, it will be interesting to see. Having as many nature trails as possible - exploring the woods type parks. Summer camps for kids, abundant sports courts, many walking trails More nature and science programs for kids. City events that encourage kids and adults to get outside. I imagine the park of the future would be a fusion of a few things in one: restaurant, gym, outdoor sports, entertainment, activities, water park, nature hike, etc. Kylde Warren park in Southlake 5A-25 (Q5) If you woke up tomorrow and five (5) years had passed, and it was suddenly the year 2025 in Southlake, what are a couple things you hope are offered regarding parks, recreation, and open space that may not be offered today? This could include programs, facilities, amenities, etc. I would hope to see from the map provided: All the (green shaded) parks to be connected by bike trails or safe paths. All the CISD properties to be connected by bike trails or safe bike paths. I would hope to see the US Army Corp area to be shared and a park built by the lake connected to Bob Jones. The Amenities would include bike rentals, kayak rentals, open non specific fields, mountain bike trail connected to the Horseshoe Trail, Knob Hill trail, and the Flower Mound trail. I would like to see a bicycle program. Road and mountain bike club. I would like to see access to current amenities. Welcome signs at fields instead of locks. I'd like to see an innovative leader with REAL mobility plans that move traffic issues forward. I would like to wake up to a reality of a bike friendly city vs applying for bike friendly status without having one single bike lane or bike trail. A park with all amenities. This isn't too difficult. There is a baseball park, softball, and various other parks. Build a park by the lake. Google park amenities and have them all. Southlake doesn't have beaches or mountains, but please, please embrace the outdoors by creating a space that families come. Picnic, water, trails. I don't want to have to drive my car there. Spend tax dollars and debt dollars (bonds) on all citizens. Please stop building sport specific parks. Apply the term inclusive to park amenities. A park with: Sand volleyball, disc golf, mountain bike trails (10+ miles of them), hiking trails, fields without locks, municipal par 3 golf, kayaking, and a restaurant. This seems unreasonable, but to accomplish this some parks might need to be changed. Open spaces are for Southlake; not baseball, softball, lacrosse, and football associations. Consider park ideas from other cities and states to offer an inclusive and healthy plan. Spend money on all citizens instead of providing perfect ball parks to baseball players. Let's build a better Southlake that is connected by other ways of transportation other than cars. I envision a park on Lake Grapevine that has fields, bike trails, disc golf, and picnic areas. I would want to ride my bike there from anywhere. I envision trails that connect shopping, restaurants, and parks. I would expect adult flag football leagues, basketball, and organized bike leagues. I would envision bike racks at local stores and possible bike rentals to promote active and healthy lifestyles. Last I want city leaders to actually listen to ideas and not to react harshly when ideas and thoughts are raised. Wouldn't it be great to have less traffic and more people enjoying the outdoors. Bike trails. Open parks that all families can enjoy. Parks like River Legacy in Arlington. Fields that are not locked. Mobility between the parks. A kind and receptive park leadership group that can listen and plan accordingly. I wish there were public free tennis courts 5A-26 (Q5) If you woke up tomorrow and five (5) years had passed, and it was suddenly the year 2025 in Southlake, what are a couple things you hope are offered regarding parks, recreation, and open space that may not be offered today? This could include programs, facilities, amenities, etc. Workout stations, better walking trails. Expansion of education area at Bob Jones Nature center. There is also no need for a Sanctuary at the center, it will change the passive nature. Paved paths for biking in nature. Well defined paths at Bob Jones Nature Preserve for hiking/running with strollers. More preK and elementary kid's programs in the summer at the parks and Bob Jones Nature Center. Bike lanes every road in Southlake. Mountain bike trail that connects Grapevine and Trophy Club. Bike paths connecting every park. Full length pool at the Marque. Remove locks from all public funded field in Southlake. Programs at every park. Much more community rec programming. For all ages. Bike lanes. Trails. The facilities are pretty top notch, but I was disappointed in the lack of emphasis on weight machines and free weights in the new athletic center. I am not sure if that has been addressed. I haven't been back since it opened. In the year 2025, 1 would like to see more open spaces for walking, parks to have for spaces for outdoor sports. Programs targeted at conservation of the environment should be there. I'm not 100% sure. I would want them to be very family friendly and be very inclusive with some kinda fairs and stuff like that. I think having different activities for kids and adults to do to get the community involved would increase the use of the parks. More running and walking trails in the park Gardens Coordinate more activities for the community Greater accessibility to parks and promoting them towards teens/adolescents There could be more open space and facilities near parks that are more accessible to the public. I would hope for more sidewalks, less construction, and more transportation options. Better bathrooms, amphitheater, programs in the park, longer trails More bike trails and pedestrian spaces. Maybe classes and programs provided by the city in these open spaces. Are there any public tennis courts currently? Spaces for outdoor recreational sports like archery Better ways of transport and better greenery More parks that are better spaced out and that are connected to neighborhoods with bike trails, sidewalks etc 1) more exotic plants 2) skating park 3) more water areas (ponds, lakes, etc.) I would for there to more equipment for other activities like rock climbing and a skate park. Also having unique areas such as a graffiti park like the one in Austin. Finally, there ought to be more water bottle refilling stations. More activities that were family based, competitions, and advanced technology that helps with getting people active. 5A-27 (Q5) If you woke up tomorrow and five (5) years had passed, and it was suddenly the year 2025 in Southlake, what are a couple things you hope are offered regarding parks, recreation, and open space that may not be offered today? This could include programs, facilities, amenities, etc. I would like for there to be more sidewalks. I hope the Southlake opens more parks and they make their trails more widely known and family friendly. Also, public transportation would be environmentally preferable and is reasonable in a growing city like Southlake. I hope that there would be more public transportation to help the environment. In five years, I hope Southlake will have a hospital (ER) 5A-28 4/1512019 Ci_southiake_tx.us Mail - Fw: Online Form Submittal: Contact the City _ Qr SQUTHL.AKE Chris Tribble <etribbo@ci-south Iake.tx.us> FW: Online Form Submittal: Contact the City Chris Tribble <cbibbte@d.sculhlake.tx.us> To; Chris Tribble 4cthbbl6 cl.southlaka.tx.us> Bcc: Tina Wasserman "start -ahead' Lori Palmer Mitch hill Tucker <ctuCker@ci.soulhlak6.tk.us>, Cordie Hatch <chatch@ci.sou a e. .use Good afternoon Parks and Recreation Board Members. In Myers Meadow neighborhood there is a HUGE lot in between a tennis court and a basketball court -This would also make the neighborhood better and more active. Also if that location won't work there are a lot of other places to build skateparks in Texas. To keep skaters like me away from having to illegally skate on private property you could build a skatepark to help us.l hope you will message back soon for your answer Sincerely, Braden Garner Email not displaying oorreclly? The Nature Center is wonderful but could be even more onderful if we follow through on the plans to make it a world - class environmental science center. In this day and age, climate and our environment are big issues - not just in our country but worldwide. Our children are already at the forefront of the issues that will impact them and generations to come. e have outstanding schools here and our community should reflect that in our commitment to excellence outside of the schoolrooms. A Science Center would benefit all Southlake residents - but especially our children. It would reflect our alues - values that need to be highlighted and shared. The park itself is critical to the wildlife and fauna that is being forced out of our neighborhoods by constant development. Let's show the world we are more than just a shopping/dining destination! I know the Southlake Sports Complex needs updating badly, but it's not utilized as a competitive facility and serves its purpose as a practice facility admirably as is. The softball facility at Bob Jones hosts folks from out of town each weekend in the fall and spring as well as numerous tournaments throughout the year. We about this specific park? love that there are natural woods and that the fields are allowed to grow with wildflowers and tall grasses, and we hope that remains in the future. It is a refuge from the city for nature and people. The new(ish) sidewalk loop and additional parking spaces are nice additions. Many Florence kids play at the park daily after school, and many people walk, run, or kids ride bikes on the loop. In our opinion, there's not much that can be done to improve the park, our whole family loves it! Other Comments Field not completed. Email not displaying correctly?
