REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF SOUTHLAKE, TEXAS
October 5, 1971
The City Council of the City of Southlake, Texas, met in
' regular session Tuesday, October 5, 1971, in the Council
Chamber of City Hall with the following members present:
Wade Booker, Mayor
' Ralph Polson, Mayor Pro Tem
Billy Joe Knox, Councilman
W. 0. Nunn, Councilman
' R. D. Drummond, Councilman
Thurman Hearn, Councilman
Also present: William D. Campbell, City Attorney.
' Mayor Booker called the meeting to order at 7:30 P.M. The
invocation was given by Councilman Polson.
' The minutes of the last regular meeting were approved as read.
Fire Department Report was tabled due to Chief Steeple's absence.
Stanley T. Burney a peared before the Council to discuss the
City's need for an Mement to bring a water main up to Dove
® Estates. Mr. Burney indicated a degree of willingness depend-
ent upon certain concessions, i.e., two water taps. Further
consideration will be given the matter at a later date.
Police Department Report was given by Chief Hughes.
ZA-71 -11 : This application was tabled at the owner's request.
' ZA-71-13: This application was brought to the Council's atten-
tion for discussion regarding procedure. It was suggested that
the City Secretary mail a copy of each new application to one
of the Commission members, Frank Tetrault.
Resolution 71-20i calling for the employment of Maurice E.
Whiteside to continue as the City's Tax Assessor for the next
twelve months at a salary of $125 per month, was passed and
approved on motion by Councilman Knox; seconded by Councilman
Hearn. Motion carried unanimously. (Copy attached and made a
part hereof.)
Councilman Knox moved that the bills presented be approved for
payment; seconded by Councilman Nunn. Motion carried unanimously.
Dove Estates: has requested that if the City is not prepared at
this time to pave its half of the boundary streets the money

for same be set aside in escrow for the paving to be done at
a later date with accruing interest to go to Dove Estates.
The Council expressed the view that "half a street is better
than none" and it would be better for the work to be done now;
barring that, then the interest accruing on the money in escrow
go to the City to offset rising costs.
The City Attorney advised he was contacted by the City of
North Richland Hills regarding incorporating our agreement
with the City of Keller with theirs. Mr. Campbell advised
that Southlake should not enter into it.
Discussion followed regarding women on the Southlake Police
Reserve.
There bring no further business, the meeting adjourned.
