Mrs. E. 0.. Doudy, Mr. Jamieson, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Denton, and
Mrs. Charles Young.
The meeting was called to order by the mayor and the minutes of
the previouse meeting were read and approved.
The election notices and affidavits for the forthcoming April
lst election were distributed. Mrs Doudy was instructed to pub-
lish the first page of the election notice in the Grapevine
paper.
Mr.. Jamieson was present to file a petition for annexation but
did not have all signatures on the petition notarized.
It was brought up that nothing had been heard from the telephone
company lately. Mr. Stevenson was instructed to contact the tele-
phone company to find out what is going on.
The matter of a city park for Southlake on Grapevine Lake was
brought up by the mayor. It had been brought to the attention
of the mayor since the last regular meeting of the council that
a park area was available for lease on the lake from the Govern-
ment through the Corps of Engineers. The lease would be for 26.45
i years and the only obligations are that a concessionaire must be
hired, a schedule of improvements: made, and the town's share of
any profits must go back into improvements of the park. Since,
several other communities were also interested in the park area,
the mayor stated that he had sent a letter of intent to the Corps
of Engineers expressing the town's interest in the park, subject
to approval of the City Council. The park area is about 40 acres
of land adjoining the far side of the dam spillway from Grapevine.
ii. discussion followed of park areas in general. It was determined
that the only park area within the city limits of Southlake had
already been bid on by Roanoke. C.M. Gordon then made a reso-
lution to the effect that the City Council approve and ratify the
letter of intent sent by the mayor to the Corps of Engineers; also
that a committee be appointed to handle the park matter. The reso-
lution was seconded by Mr. Carlil.e and unanimously approved by

Mrs. Charles.Ybung was in attendance at the meeting to bring +
before the Council the problem of persons unknown shooting fire-
arms at her property from the road at night. She cited several
examples concerning she and her neighbors and also examples of ~
thievery in her area of Southlake. The marshal brought out that
there was a state law covering shooting from hhe highway but
that it was very difficult to enforce. It was pointed..out that
a city ordnance to prevent shooting firearms from the road
would give the marshal authority if he should catch any of
these people.
Mr. Carlile made a motion that an ordnance be passed preventing
the shooting of firearms from the road. It was seconded by Mr.
Cummings and unanimously carried by the Council. O„
No further business.coming before the Council, the meeting was
adjourned at 3;30 P.M..
