Yelverton, City Manager Subject: City Council 2011 Winter Retreat The Winter Retreat is scheduled as follows: City Council Winter Retreat Monday, January 31, 2011 5:30 pm — 9:00 pm Southlake Hilton The focus for this year's retreat is "Super Boards," with an emphasis on the partnership between the City Council, Boards and Commissions and staff. As you will note on the attached working agenda, we are planning an interactive exercise to generate ideas on ways to improve our processes that relate to board member application, selection, training, communication, management and accountability. Small groups will work on each area, report out to the larger group and, ultimately, a plan of action will be developed from Council's direction. The second part of the Retreat will be a discussion of issues related to each of the city's priorities or focus areas. This will give Council an opportunity to cover issues related to Safety & Security, Mobility, Infrastructure, Quality Development, Partnership & Volunteerism, and Performance Management & Service Delivery. Your packet includes a CD with audio PowerPoint presentations on our volunteer program and a report on follow -up items from your 2010 June Retreat. We have also included an audio PowerPoint that was in your June Retreat packet related to managing your boards and commissions as a reference. We look forward to meeting with you on Monday evening. Remember that we will begin the evening at the Hilton Hotel at 5:30 p.m. with a casual dinner. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns regarding the presentations included in your packet or the items that we will be discussing Monday night.
