SUBJECT: Election of Vice -Chair and Secretary
Action Requested: Election of Vice -Chair and Secretary.
Background
Information: The Southlake City Code and the Senior Advisory
Commission Bylaws address the process for selection of the
Vice -Chair and Secretary for the Senior Advisory
Commission. Annually, following the City Council
appointments of new Senior Advisory Commission
members, the Board shall select a Vice -Chair and Secretary
to serve for a one-year period until the next annual election.
On October 1, 2024, the City Council appointed Patty
Rogers (Alternate 1) and reappointed MaryLee Alford (Place
2), Julie Walter (Place 4), and Bernadette MacDermott
(Place 7) to the Senior Advisory Commission. Additionally,
the City Council reappointed MaryLee Alford as the Chair
per Ordinance 1228B.
Any sitting member of the Board may be considered for the
officer positions. The current board members are:
■ William Meddings — Place 1
■ MaryLee Alford — Place 2, Chair
■ Julie Walter — Place 4
■ Brent Mcllvain — Place 5
■ Greta Schumacher — Place 6, Vice Chair
■ Bernadette MacDermott — Place 7
A summary of each officer's duties is listed below for your
consideration.
Vice -Chair
• In the absence of the Chair or in the event the Chair is
not able to or refuses to act, the Vice -Chair shall perform
the duties of the Chair; and
• Preside at Board meetings in the Chair's absence

• Perform other duties as prescribed
Secretary
• Ensure Minutes are filed with the City Secretary (Handled
by the Department Secretary)
• In general, shall perform all duties assigned by the Chair
or the Board
• In the absence of the Chair and Vice Chair, or their
inability or refusal to act, shall perform the duties of Chair
• The secretary assists the Department Secretary by
turning ON the audio recorder at the meeting and taking
notes during meetings to assist with the creation of
minutes for the following meeting.

Considerations: Officers that are members of the Commission shall not
receive any Salary or consideration for their services.

Staff Members Present: Deputy Director of Community Services Ryan McGrail, Hospitality
and Sales Manager of Legends Hall at The Marq Southlake Crystal Maddalena, Senior
Services Coordinator Soheila Mashat-Phelps, Community Relations Manager Vicky Schiber,
Champions Club Operations Manager Amy Bennett.
1. CALL TO ORDER
Chair MaryLee Alford called the meeting of the Senior Advisory Commission to order at
1:00 P.M.
2. PUBLIC FORUM
Chair Alford opened Public Forum at 1:00 P.M. There being no one to address the
Commission, Public Forum was closed at 1:00 P.M.
3. DISCUSSION: (No Vote on Discussion Items)
A. Senior Center Marketing Plan Presentation — Vicky Schiber, Community
Relations Manager
Schiber presented the Marketing Plan and was available to answer questions.
SAC members provided feedback.
B. Champions Club Update -- Amy Bennett, Champions Club Operations Manager
Bennett presented the Champions Club Update and was available for questions.
4. CONSENT
Consent Agenda items are considered routine by the Commission and are enacted with
one motion.
A. Approve the minutes from the August 13, 2024, Senior Advisory Commission

Chair Alford presented the Consent Agenda, including approval of the
minutes of the August 13, 2024, meeting. Chair Alford asked if there
were any revisions to the minutes. Revisions were discussed.

A motion was made to accept the minutes of August 13, 2024, meeting as revised.
