CITY OF
SOUTHLAKE
MEMORANDUM
March 5, 2021
To: Senior Advisory Commission
From: Jerod Potts, Policy & Strategic Initiative Principal Planner
Subject: Item 3C: Discuss Southlake 2035 Parks, Recreation & Open Space
Master Plan
Action
Requested: Provide input on draft recommendations within the Southlake 2035 Parks,
Recreation & Open Space Master Plan.
Background
Information: City staff along with the Southlake Parks & Recreation Board are
currently developing the Southlake 2035 Parks, Recreation & Open
Space Master Plan. The Board has held several meetings dating back to
2019 to discuss this plan element.
During the development of the Health & Wellness Master Plan in 2019,
City staff presented to the Senior Advisory Commission to ensure the
senior perspective was included in the plan. The adopted Health &
Wellness Plan contains a section focusing on being an age -friendly
community.
A couple of the recommendations adopted with the Health & Wellness
Master Plan included:
HW22: Continue to work with City groups such as the Southlake Senior
Advisory Commission (SAC) to ensure that Southlake is an Age -Friendly
Community
HW23: As part of the next Parks Master Plan update, seek the input of
Southlake seniors regarding interests in terms of recreational program
offerings.
Given the recommendations noted above, staff will present draft
recommendations in the Parks, Recreation and Open Space Master Plan
to the Senior Advisory Committee. The purpose of this discussion is to
ensure this important resident perspective is included in the City's
comprehensive planning process.
