SUBJECT: Agenda Item Comments for Senior Advisory Commission Meeting
Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at 1:00 p.m.
The regular Senior Advisory Commission meeting will begin at 1:00 p.m. in The
Marq Legends Hall Executive Boardroom. A light lunch will be served at 12:30
p.m. Please advise staff if you are not able to attend this meeting

1. Agenda Item No. 1. Call to Order
2. Agenda Item No. 2. Public Forum: — This is the public's opportunity to address
the Commission about non -agenda items. During Public Forum, the Commission
will not discuss, consider, or take action on any item presented. The
Commissions' options during this topic are 1) to listen, 2) ask questions and
respond to the presenter only, 3) request staff to look into the issue and report
back to the Commission and/or 4) request that the Chair put the item on a future
agenda for the Commission to discuss or consider.

3. Agenda Item No. 3. Discussion:
A. Community Services Department Report — Hospitality & Sales Manager,
Ashley Newhart, will give a brief presentation on upcoming initiatives and
new agenda formatting. She will also present the October and November
Senior Center Report. A copy of the dashboard report is included in the
packet.
B. Metroport Meals On Wheels Report — MMOW Executive Director Mary
King will present the previous quarterly report to the Commission. A copy
of the Quarterly MMOW report is included in your packet.

agenda. Items cannot take action but can be fact finding topics. The
Chair and Vice Chair will decide at Pre -Agenda meetings what they
will take forward at the next meeting. No packet documents.

Members Present: Chair MaryLee Alford, and Vice Chair Kathryn Orler, and SAC
members, Patty Howell, Esther Spickler, Greta Schumacher, Bernadette MacDermott,
Wendy Polk (Alt#1), and Jayne Winfrey (Alt #2)
Commission Members Absent: All Commission Members present.
Staff Members Present: Hospitality and Sales Manager of Legends Hall at The Marq
Southlake, Ashley Newhart and Senior Services Coordinator, Soheila Mashat-Phelps
Guests: Assistant to the City Manager, Lauren LaNeave and Southlake Senior Funding
Inc. Board Member Bernie McCauley and Call a Ride Southlake President, Ernie Meyer
1. CALL TO ORDER
Chair MaryLee Alford called the meeting of the Senior Advisory Commission to
order at 1:00 p.m.
2. PUBLIC FORUM
Senior Activity Center member, Bernie McCauley, 900 Wild Wood Lane Southlake
Texas, does not feel that topics brought forward from public forum are addressed and
fall through the cracks without updates, specifically regarding the bus. Ms. McCauley
also invited all of the Commission to the Monday Luncheons.
3. DISCUSSION
3A. CITY MANAGER'S REPORT

Assistant to the City Manager, Lauren LaNeave, presented the Fall & Winter Trash
and Recycling Schedule for the City. The Commission asked a few questions that
were answered. A handout was provided.

3B. METROPORT MEALS ON WHEELS REPORT

Metroport Meals On Wheels (MMOW) Mary King was not present. T h e
Commission reviewed the Quarterly report, Cumulative report,
and September report with many questions. Mary Lee Alford
advised staff to request Mary King attend the January meeting
to respond to their questions.

3C. CALL A RIDE SOUTHLAKE REPORT ,
Call a Ride Southlake's President, Ernie Meyer, provided the CARS 2019 quarterly
report which was included in the meeting packet. Ernie reported and responded to
commission comments and questions. Handouts included.
3D. SOUTHLAKE SENIOR FUNDING, INC —j
SSFI Board Member McCauley gave the commission a brief history on SSFI and
what they do for the Senior Activity Center. She also presented a report on the
recently sponsored trips and answered commission questions. No Handouts
included.
3E. COMMUNITY SERVICES REPORT
Hospitality and Sales Manager, Ashley Newhart, presented the September 2019
dashboard report and answered questions from the commission.
3F. SENIOR SERVICES REPORT
Senior Services Coordinator, Soheila Phelps, mentioned the new quarterly newsletter
will be available the first week of December. She also mentioned upcoming events
and answered questions from the commission.
3G. DECEMBER 10, 2019 SENIOR ADVISORY COMMISSION MEETING
The commission decided to cancel the December 10, 2019 meeting.
4. CONSENT
CONSENT AGENDA Consent Agenda items are considered routine by the
Commission and are enacted with one motion.
4A. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES FROM THE OCTOBER 8, 2019 REGULAR
SENIOR ADVISORY COMMISSION MEETING.
Chair MaryLee Alford presented the Consent Agenda, including approval of the
Senior Advisory Commission
Meeting Minutes of the November 12, 2019
minutes of the October 8, 2019 meeting. Chair Alford asked if there were any
revisions to the minutes. No revisions were discussed but staff directed commission
to bring additional topics to staff's attention if they wanted to add items to the agenda.

5A. ELECTION OF OFFICERS FOR SENIOR ADVISORY COMMISSION
Hospitality and Sales Manager, Ashley Newhart, presented a brief presentation
describing the job duties of the Chair, Vice Chair, and Secretary.
The Commission discussed who was interested and who was not interested in serving
as an officer.

A motion was made to elect MaryLee Alford as Chair, Greta Schumacher as Vice
Chair, and Patty Howell as Secretary.
