1. CALL TO ORDER
Vice Chairman MaryLee Alford recognized a Quorum was present and called the
meeting of the Senior Advisory Commission to order at 1:00 p.m.
A formal PowerPoint presentation was provided at the meeting.
2. PUBLIC FORUM — Vice Chairman MaryLee Alford opened Public Forum. There
being no one else to speak, Public Forum was closed.
3. REPORTS
3A. METROPORT MEALS ON WHEELS
MMOW Executive Director Mary King was not present. An oral report was not
provided at this meeting. Senior Advisory Commission members received copies of
the October and November MMOW reports in their meeting packet.
3B. CALL A RIDE SOUTHLAKE
CARS Chairman Brighton Greene reviewed the year-end statistics from the
December Report. The October and November CARS reports were provided in the
meeting packet.

In 2016, CARS had an approximate 11 % increase in trips over the year 2015. CARS
provided 1,570 one-way trips during 2016 in comparison with 1,415 one-way trips the
previous year. Qualified Riders also increased during 2016 with 28 new riders in
2016 and 19 in 2015. Approximately 11,000 miles were driven during 2016 by the 25
volunteer drivers. Trip Destinations showed 572 trips were provided to the Southlake
Senior Center during 2016. 412 trips were provided to other senior centers during
2016.
Mr. Greene responded to questions concerning ride destinations, notice requirements
and fundraiser opportunities.
3C. SOUTHLAKE SENIOR FUNDING, INC.
Southlake Senior Funding, Inc. representative Nancy Sporn provided an overview of
the Southlake Senior Funding, Inc. (SSFI) organization and explained how
sponsorships are handled. SSFI sponsored the December "Gift of Christmas" field
trip and will sponsor the field trip to Reunion Tower in January and trips to Dallas
Blooms and Dallas Museum of Art in March. Ms. Sporn responded to questions
concerning membership drives and fundraising activities.
3D. CITY MANAGER'S OFFICE
Assistant to the City Manager Daniel Cortez did not have a report for this meeting,
but was available to answer a question concerning traffic and construction.
3E. COMMUNITY SERVICES
Senior Services Coordinator Soheila Phelps presented the Community Services
report in the absence of Director Chris Tribble and reviewed the September Senior
Center Membership Report statistics. There are over 1,100 total memberships to the
Southlake Senior Center for the last quarter. Ms. Phelps answered questions
concerning memberships.
Bernice McCauley, 900 Wild Wood, Southlake, spoke about converting the senior
fitness room into a bathroom, and installing higher toilet seats in the restrooms. Staff
reported a toilet seat has been raised in each of the bathrooms. A response to the
inquiry about the use of the senior fitness room is deferred to Community Services
Director Tribble.
3F. SENIOR SERVICES COORDINATOR
Senior Services Coordinator Soheila Phelps presented the Senior Services report.
The senior newsletter has a new look and will be available on a quarterly basis
beginning in January; a history seminar has been added to the senior programming

and the technology 101 class and ballroom dance classes have been expanded. The
next themed lunches are Chinese New Year and Valentine events.
4. CONSENT AGENDA Consent Agenda items are considered to be routine by the
Commission and are enacted with one motion.
4A. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES FROM THE NOVEMBER 6, 2016 REGULAR
SENIOR ADVISORY COMMISSION MEETING.
Vice Chair MaryLee Alford presented the Consent Agenda, including approval of the
minutes of the November 6, 2016 meeting. There were no changes made to the
minutes.

Report. The Commission reviewed the Report and a suggestion was made to specify
which quarter the report covers at the top of the first page. The final approved report
will be included in the January 17, 2017 City Council meeting packet.
