Agenda Item No. 1. Call to Order 2. Agenda Item No. 2. Reports: A. Metroport Meals On Wheels – This item will allow MMOW representative Mary King to present a quarterly report to the Commission. A copy of the August report is included in your packet. B. Call A Ride Southlake – This item will allow CARS representatives Brighton Greene or Erik Phelps to present the CARS quarterly report to the Commission. A copy of the August report is included in your packet. Beginning this month, MMOW and CARS will provide oral reports to the Commission on a quarterly basis: January, April, June and October meetings only. The regular written reports will continue to be included in the SAC meeting packet as usual. C. Southlake Senior Funding, Inc. – This item is a standing item on the agenda to allow for a report on Southlake Senior Funding, Inc., (SSFI). This item has no packet document. D. City Manager’s Office – This is a standing item on the agenda to allow for an update from the City’s Assistant to the City Manager Daniel Cortez. This item has no packet document. Community Services – This is a standing item on the agenda to allow for an update from the Community Services Department staff regarding current and future developments. This month’s staff update includes the September Senior Center Membership Report, which is included in your packet, as well as an update on upcoming special events and Senior demographic trends in Southlake. F. Senior Services – This is an opportunity for the Senior Services Coordinator to present information about existing and future programs and activities. This item has no packet document. Approval of the September 13, 2016 Senior Advisory Commission meeting minutes – Please include any corrections to the minutes in your motion. 4. Agenda Item No. 4. Consider: A. Approval of Senior Advisory Commission 4th Quarter Report – A draft report is included in your packet to review and provide feedback at the SAC meeting prior to it being included in the November 15, 2016 City Council meeting packet. 5. Agenda Item No. 5. Discussion: A. Senior Center Wellness Room Discussion – The purpose of this item is to allow the Commission to discuss future use of the Senior Wellness Room. When Champions Club opens in June 2018, there will be dedicated space for cardio and weight equipment on the main fitness floor. The Commission has the opportunity to decide if they would like to maintain a dedicated fitness room within the Senior Center or use that space for another purpose. There are no packet documents for this item. 6. Agenda Item No. 6. Public Forum: – This is the public's opportunity to address the Commission about non-agenda items. During Public Forum, the Commission will not discuss, consider, or take action on any item presented. The Commissions' options during this topic are 1) to listen, 2) ask questions and respond to the presenter only, 3) request staff to look into the issue and report back to the Commission and/or 4) request that the Chair put the item on a future agenda for the Commission to discuss or consider. CALL TO ORDER Secretary Marge Kyle called the meeting of the Senior Advisory Commission to order at 1:08 p.m. 2. REPORTS 2A. METROPORT MEALS ON WHEELS MMOW Executive Director Mary King reviewed the statistics for the July MMOW report. Additional information about direct food costs for the home delivered and congregate meals was provided in a handout that was reviewed. Ms. King was available to respond to questions from the Commission. 2B. CALL A RIDE SOUTHLAKE CARS board representative Brighton Greene presented ridership information from the July CARS report. Mr. Greene responded to questions from the Commission regarding rides to other senior centers and clarification of the “Rider Groups” classification on the report. SOUTHLAKE SENIOR FUNDING, INC. Southlake Senior Funding, Inc. representative Bernice McCauley reported a SSFI meeting would be held next week where future sponsorship opportunities will be discussed. Some of SSFI recent activities include providing a partial sponsorship of the Guys & Dolls event last weekend and another senior event later this week. SSFI is participating in the North Texas Giving Day to be held September 22, 2016. Ms. McCauley responded to questions regarding SSFI financial reports and discounts to participants. 2D. CITY MANAGER’S OFFICE Assistant to the City Manager Daniel Cortez provided a City Manager’s Report with a presentation of the Mayor’s message about the Fiscal Year 2017 budget video. The Senior Advisory Commission members were encouraged to attend the City Council meeting on September 20th where the budget will be considered and to contact the City Council and staff with any questions or concerns. 2E. COMMUNITY SERVICES Director Chris Tribble shared artist renderings of The Marq Southlake - Champions Club with the Commission. City Council approved the contract for construction of Champions Club with Haydon Building Corporation in the amount of $32,988,686 on September 6, 2016. Groundbreaking is scheduled for November 10, 2016 with an anticipated opening in June 2018. Director Tribble responded to questions regarding Champions Club. Some of the discussion topics included: • Expected payoff time for construction of Champions Club and use of 3/8-cent Sales Tax • Door in senior fitness room to locker area/restroom to be fire door exit • Admission fee for Champions Club access • Future use of the current Wellness Room in the Senior Center 2F. SENIOR SERVICES COORDINATOR Senior Services Coordinator Soheila Phelps reported on senior center events, programs and upcoming activities. Plans are being finalized for the next major senior event, Vegas Casino Night, on October 28, 2016. Senior field trips, events and seminars continue to be very well attended. The Commission and staff discussed the possibility and agreed if a volunteer could research the dates and provide that information to staff the plaque could be reprinted with the names in chronological order. 6. But the one thing that stays constant is the commitment to providing excellent programs and service for our growing 55+active adult population. We did a lot in-house to keep our guests entertained and busy …  Be a “Super Hero” was the theme for National Park and Recreation Month in July--- The staff hosted programs around this theme including weekly themed lunches, Superhero movie, potluck Bingo and Superhero games and ice cream social.  We celebrated Elvis Week in August and invited a championship winner to do his Elvis Tribute show at our weekly luncheon.  We offered monthly educational seminars: health, financial and legal seminars, Flu Shot Clinic, and a Q&A with Senior Health Service Providers  Have secured monthly Technology classes  Potluck Bingo is popular as ever and our sponsor has been very generous with the prizes  Monthly movies are still a big hit  The Bridge lessons offered by our senior members have been received very well  Cooking class with Alice and Veena has brought cultures together We were able to travel to….  The Magnolia Market at the Silos in Waco.
