3. Agenda Item No. 3. Discussion:
A. Guest Speaker: Shannon Hamons. Director of Economic Development &
Tourism — Director Hamons has accepted SAC's invitation to attend the
July 14, 2015 meeting to meet the Commission members and share
information about the City's latest economic developments in Southlake. A
copy of Mr. Hamons' bio is included in your packet.
B. Chair Recap of Assistant City Manager Meeting — An overview of the SAC
officer meeting with Assistant City Manager, Ben Thatcher and Director of
Community Services, Chris Tribble will be discussed. This item has no
packet document.
C. Fitness Equipment — The purpose of this item is for SAC to preview fitness
equipment for The Marq Southlake's senior center fitness room.
Fitness equipment options for the senior fitness room were discussed by
SAC at the June 10, 2014 and February 10, 2015 meetings, and
Commission members previewed various pieces at the May 12 and June
9 meetings. This is the Commission's final equipment demonstration prior
to making their formal recommendation at the August SAC meeting. This
item has no packet document.
D. Senior Activities Center Name — SAC members have expressed a desire
to rename the `Senior Center' program to another name that may have a
broader appeal to individuals ages 55+. Staff will begin discussion on
possible options for a name. This item has no packet document.

E. Program Focus Groups Overview — Staff will discuss the upcoming
Program Focus Groups with the Commission.
Scheduled for Friday, July 17 the purpose of the focus groups is to gain a
better insight on the wants and needs of specific member groups that
were identified in the member survey as member categories with the need
to grow. The three groups will be individuals 55 to 69 years old, Men and
Southlake Residents. This will be an invitation only event at the Senior
Activity Center. There are no packet items for this item.
F. The Marg Grand Opening Event — Staff will discuss options for the
Commission to consider regarding a grand opening event of The Marq
Southlake for the seniors. There are no packet items for this item.
4. Agenda Item No. 4. Reports:
A. City Manager's Office — This is a standing item on the agenda to allow for
an update from the City's Deputy Director of Communications Pilar
Schank. This item has no packet document.
B. Community Services - This is a standing item on the agenda to allow for
an update from the Community Services Department staff regarding
current developments. This item has no packet document.
C. Senior Services Coordinator — This is an opportunity for the Senior
Services Coordinator to present information about existing and future
programs and activities. This item has no packet document.
D. Metroport Meals on Wheels — This item is a standing item on the agenda
to allow for a report on the MMOW program. This item has no packet
document.
E. Call A Ride Southlake — This item is a standing item on the agenda to
allow for a report on the CARS program. This item has no packet
document.
F. Southlake Senior Funding, Inc. — This item is a standing item on the
agenda to allow for a report on Southlake Senior Funding, Inc., (SSFI).

5. Agenda Item No. 5. Public Forum: — This is the public's opportunity to address
the Commission about non -agenda items. During Public Forum, the Commission
will not discuss, consider, or take action on any item presented. The
Commissions' options during this topic are 1) to listen, 2) ask questions and

6. Agenda Item No. 6. Consider:
A. Senior Advisory Commission 3rd Quarter Written Report to City Council —
A draft report is included in your packet to review and provide feedback at
the SAC meeting Tuesday prior to it being included in the August 18, 2015
City Council meeting packet.
B. Recommendation on FY 2016 Senior Services Division General Fund
Operating Budget — Staff will staff will present the FY 2016 Senior
Services Budget at the meeting on Tuesday. This item has no packet
document.

7. Community Engagement Town Hall Forums — Upcoming Town Hall Forum(s) for
proposed developments in the City are listed online at www.SouthlakeSPIN.org.
At this writing, there are no Forums scheduled. Please check the website for the

Chairman Sporn called the meeting of the Senior Advisory Commission to order at
1:05 p.m.

2. CONSENT AGENDA Consent Agenda items are considered to be routine by the
Commission and are enacted with one motion.
2A. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES FROM THE MAY 12, 2015 REGULAR SENIOR
ADVISORY COMMISSION MEETING.

3. DISCUSSION
3A. FITNESS EQUIPMENT
Deputy Director Kate Meacham lead the discussion about fitness equipment for the
center and responded to questions. The Commission reviewed the results of the
recent Fitness Equipment Survey that gauged participant's experience and
satisfaction during the demonstration of the Elliptical, Recumbent Bike, and Treadmill
machines. This item will be continued at the next meeting.
3B. MEMBER SURVEY RESULTS
Senior Services Coordinator Soheila Phelps presented the Senior Center
Membership Survey Results. A map showing senior center participation by zip code
and proximity to the Southlake Center was reviewed. Currently there are 109 senior
center members living within two miles of the Center, 102 members within 2-4 miles
of the Center, and 115 members within 4-6 miles of the Center. The Commission was
also provided a chart of area cities' senior center lunch programs. This item will be
continued at the next meeting.
3C. THE MARQ: PROGRAMS
Senior Advisory Commission members received The Marq: Senior Programs (Phase
1) form to determine interest and likelihood of attendance in various types of
programs, including fitness, nutrition/weight management, educational programs,
dance, day and multi -day trips, games, lessons, outdoor programs social meals,
support groups and computer/technology classes. The discussion of programming
will be continued at the next meeting.
4. REPORTS
4A. CITY MANAGER'S OFFICE & COMMUNITY SERVICES
Communications & Website Manager Pilar Schank presented the City Manager's
Report and responded to questions.
4B. COMMUNITY SERVICES
Deputy Director Kate Meacham provided an update about current and upcoming
community events and recreation activities.
4C. SENIOR SERVICES COORDINATOR
Senior Services Coordinator Soheila Phelps reported on summer programs, events
and field trips and was available to answer questions.

There was no report for this meeting.
4E. CALL A RIDE SOUTHLAKE
CARS representative Brighton Greene presented the CARS monthly participation trip
statistics report and highlighted the month's ridership and CARS activities. Mr.
Greene was available to answer questions
4F. SOUTHLAKE SENIOR FUNDING, INC.
Southlake Senior Funding, Inc., Secretary Nancy Sporn briefly reported on SSFI
activities. Ms. Sporn was available to answer questions.

City of Southlake Advisory Commission Quarterly
Report
The Senior Activity Center has become a popular place to attend. In the last quarter
we've had 90 new members sign up.
Our guests went on the following trips
• Homestead Heritage Village at Brazos de Dios
• Ennis Bluebonnet Trails
• UTA Planetarium and Catfish Sam's
• Cooking Workshop at the Taste -buds Kitchen
This quarter due to weather and lack of participants we had to postpone or cancel some
of our outings.
When we weren't traveling we did a few things in house....
• The members have had visits from two Mayors, John Terrell and Laura Hill this quarter, bringing
information on plans for Southlake now and the future
• The "Moral Rehabilitation" presentation gave us something to think about
• We learned about Genetically Modified Food and its effects on our health and daily being
• Potluck Bingo has been going strong and our sponsor has been very generous with their prizes
• Monthly movies are still a hit
• We wrapped up our Senior Dances in May for the summer
• Added couple of new programs to the calendar "Samba Canasta" and "Beginners Bridge"
• Spanish Class continues to be a popular and well received class by the student members
• The members have been able to try out and survey a few exercise equipment which will be used
at the new facility of the Marq
• We were entertained by:
■ The Rockenbaugh Elementary Choir "RESPECT"
■ Musical talent of Paul Baskin
Staff at the Senior Activity Center has been working closely with the members for their feedback
about the existing programs and possible input on things they'd like to see as we gear up to
move into our new home at the Marq!
