City of Southlake Advisory Commission Quarterly
Report
Despite of couple of closings due to our crazy winter weather, we managed to
keep our members busy and active. The greatest highlight of this quarter was
celebrating two of our sweetest members who turn 100 years YOUNG!
Our guests:
Toured the Mary Kay Museum in Addison and The Ripley’s Believe it or Not Odditorium and
Palace of Wax in Grand Prairie
Visited the Grapevine Mills Mall and then lunched at Rainforest Cafe
Went to see Mark Twain’s “Tom Sawyer” at the Artisan Theater; Enjoyed the “La Boehme
Opera” at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington
Experienced the Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament. The trip was made more affordable
thanks to sponsorship from SSFI
Ventured out to the Fort Worth Stock Yard and Rodeo at the Will Rogers Coliseum
Welcomed Spring by visiting our annual destination -- the “Dallas Arboretum”
Have enjoyed our monthly Senior Dances and we have the numbers to prove it
When we weren’t traveling we did a few things in house….
Our members have been learning to paint with Acrylic paints
105 of our guests “loved” The Southlake Women’s Club annual Valentine’s Day Luncheon
The AARP Driver Safety Refresher Course was back in February
We celebrated :
1. The Chinese New Year and Jeff Wang shared his talent in calligraphy.
2. St. Patrick’s Day with Corn Beef and Cabbage and was entertained by McTeggart Irish
Dancers of North Texas.
3. The International Bag Pipe Day and was entertained by two members of Fire Dept.
The visit from a panel of Senior Services answering our members’ questions was a hit in March,
plus they got a free eye screening by Carter Eye Center
Potluck Bingo and monthly Movies are still popular and going strong
Our M&M’s, Ms. Martha and Ms. Millie’s 100th birthday celebration was a wonderful way to end
this quarter
Our calendar for April, May and June is already full and can’t wait to tell you all about it.
