City of Southlake Advisory Commission Quarterly
Report
We had lots of fun activities at the Senior Center this summer.
Our members traveled to McKinney to experience the Crape Myrtle Trails; in Dublin toured the
W.P. Kloster museum and Dublin Bottling Works; and were treated like royalties in Paris (Paris
Texas that is!)
We visited a few museums, went to see lots of shows and musicals. Dined at a German
Restaurant and danced to the music of a one man band! Our members enjoyed participating in
the annual Northeast Tarrant County Senior Jamboree in NRH.
We had educational seminars by doctors and nutritionists on how to choose healthier food and
take better care of ourselves. West Nile virus is a topic we discuss every summer to stay vigilant
in protecting against the mosquitos. AARP smart Driving Course is a program we try to offer
every quarter. Once a month movie day is as popular as the first day it was offered.
With the help of our department's marketing efforts the senior center has been given a grand
exposer; our senior volunteers helped with stuffing the printed material in every water bill going
to the Southlake residents. We are hopeful of great results.
We are so excited to end this quarter with the Ground Breaking of phase one of the long
awaited CRC project. The Community Services Department put on a grand event where many
guests participated. Everyone is very excited to see this project become a reality.
