4. Agenda Item No. 4. Reports:
A. Community Recreation Center Update – Director of Community Services
Chris Tribble will update the Senior Advisory Commission on the Community
Recreation Center project and present the completed Phase 1 and
2 Schematic Design.
B. City Manager’s Office & Community Services – This is a standing item on the
agenda to allow for an update from the City’s Communications and Website
Manager Pilar Schank and Community Services Department staff regarding
current developments.
C. Metroport Meals on Wheels – This item is a standing item on the agenda to
allow for a report on the MMOW program.
D. Call A Ride Southlake– This item is a standing item on the agenda to allow for
a report on the CARS program.

E. Senior Services Coordinator – This is an opportunity for the Senior Services
Coordinator to present information about existing and future programs and
activities.
F. Southlake Senior Funding, Inc. – This item is a standing item on the agenda
to allow for a report on Southlake Senior Funding, Inc., (SSFI).
5. Agenda Item No. 5. Public Forum: – This is the public's opportunity to address the
Commission about non-agenda items. During Public Forum, the Commission will not
discuss or take action on any item presented. The Commissions' options during this
topic are 1) to listen, 2) ask questions and respond to the presenter only, 3) request
staff to look into the issue and report back to the Commission and/or 4) request that
the Chair put the item on a future agenda for the Commission to discuss or consider.
6. Agenda Item No. 6. Consider:
A. Senior Advisory Commission 1st Quarter Written Report to City Council – A
draft report is included in your packet to review and provide feedback at the
SAC meeting Tuesday prior to it being included in the March 18, 2014 City
Council meeting packet.

7. Community Engagement Town Hall Forums – This item replaces the previous SPIN
Report. Upcoming Town Hall Forum(s) for proposed developments in the City are

Topic: The proposed development of six residential lots on three acres at
201 East Highland.
8. FYI, Tour of DPS North Training Facility – Community Initiatives Officer Renni Burt
will provide a tour of the new facility following the meeting if you would like to join us.

1. CALL TO ORDER
Chairman McCauley called the meeting of the Senior Advisory Commission to
order at 1:00 p.m.
2. CONSENT AGENDA Consent Agenda items are considered to be routine by the
Commission and are enacted with one motion. Chair McCauley read the consent
agenda items into the record.
2A. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES FROM THE NOVEMBER 12, 2013 REGULAR
SENIOR ADVISORY COMMISSION.
APPROVED
A correction was made to the minutes to remove the last sentence pertaining to
cancellation of the December SAC meeting.
A motion was made to accept the minutes of the November 12, 2013 meeting
with the correction to remove the last sentence.

4. REPORTS
4A. METROPORT MEALS ON WHEELS
MMOW representative Mary King distributed MMOW monthly reports and year
end summary report. Participation and cost statistics for the congregate and
home-delivered meal programs were shared and Commission questions were
answered.
4B. CALL A RIDE SOUTHLAKE
CARS Chair Brighton Greene distributed the CARS monthly participation
summary and reported a decrease in trips during December due to the ice storm,
but an overall increase in trips for the year (2,062 trips for 2013 verus 1,739 for
2012). Commission members discussed opportunities to expand marketing of
CARS to the public by contacting several local medical facilities about their
transportation program.
4C. SPIN
Communications & Website Manager Pilar Schank explained the transition from
SPIN to a Community Engagement Committee (CEC), a volunteer committee
which City Council will make appointments to in March or April 2014. CEC will
advise City Council on matters related to community engagement, outreach
programs, and related issues. Information regarding upcoming meetings about
proposed developments will continue to be identified in the Senior Advisory
Commission monthly meeting packet under the section, Community Engagement
Town Hall Forum. For more information about the Community Engagement
Committee, please contact Caroline Eckel, CEC staff liaison and Assistant to the
City Manager at ceckel@ci.southlake.tx.us.
4D. SENIOR SERVICES COORDINATOR
Senior Services Coordinator Soheila Phelps reported progress is being made on
membership ID cards, programming and sponsorships. Ideas were discussed to

boost attendance at the medical education lectures. Staff will investigate moving
the lectures to after one of the monthly Tuesday luncheons, physician and
programming schedules permitting.
4E. SOUTHLAKE SENIOR FUNDING, INC.
Southlake Senior Funding, Inc., Board Director McCauley reported on SSFI
developments and fundraising efforts. SSFI has been provided a list of future
senior events that may be marketed for potential sponsorship participation.
4F. CITY MANAGER’S OFFICE & COMMUNITY SERVICES
Director of Community Services Chris Tribble updated the Commission on the
latest developments concerning the community recreation center and answered
questions concerning construction at Bicentennial Park.
Communications & Website Manager Pilar Schank reported the opening of the
new DPS North Training Facility an encouraged members to visit the facility.
SAC will hold their February 11, 2014 meeting at the DPS North facility.
Commission members expressed concerns about traffic issues on Southlake
Boulevard and Davis Boulevard and other busy intersections. Members were
encouraged to contact Sgt. Gayland Music and Police Chief Steve Mylett about
traffic issues.
5. PUBLIC FORUM
Chair McCauley opened the public forum. There being no one to speak during
public forum, Chair McCauley closed the public forum.
6. CONSIDER – There were no items to consider at this meeting.
7. ADJOURNMENT

A motion was made an unanimously approved to adjourn the meeting at 2:45
p.m.

1st Quarter (Oct-Nov-Dec 2013) Report to City Council
City of Southlake Senior Advisory Commission
Quarterly Report
Fall was a very busy season for our seniors. We had lots of trips and in house
activities planned for them.
We started off with:
Empowering Seniors 2013, free educational & fun event organized by Tarrant County
Commissioner Fickes
Perot Museum blew us away; one day is not enough to see it all
Got a tour of the Le Cordon Bleu Dallas campus and had a wonderful lunch prepared by the
students
Harvest Festival was attended by many including some of the city staff who helped us judge the
chili cook-off and Halloween custom contest. We celebrated Arbor Day and planted a tree too.
The trick or treaters from RES preschoolers was a great finish to our event
George W. Bush Library was a popular place to visit and learn how our president lived and
conducted some of his daily routine
Klyde Warren Park in Dallas was interesting
The most popular trip of this quarter was the “Fall Foliage Trip to Athens, TX”. This trip was
partly sponsored by contribution from Sam Pack’s Five Star thru efforts of our SSFI committee
We were amazed by wonderful Christmas lights show in the Grand Prairie
When we weren’t traveling we did a few things in house….
We celebrated National Firefighter’s week by inviting some of our local firefighters to join us for
lunch and they didn’t disappoint ---their visit was member able
Ken Baker, Sr. Director of Planning and Development shared information about projects going
on in Southlake and what they mean to our seniors
State Representative Giovanni Capriglione shared valuable information about the November
election
Lunch & Learn provided by Medical Air Services Association (MASA) educated our seniors to be
prepared for emergency situations
One of the highlights of December was being entertained by 50 RESPECT choir students from
Rockenbaugh elementary, it sure put everyone in a Christmas mood
We had a great turn out for our 3rd annual Holiday Party. Our seniors sure know how to party!
And we’re looking forward….
To a great new year and can’t wait to see what 2014 has in store for us
