4. Agenda Item No. 4. Reports:
A. Metroport Meals on Wheels – This item is a standing item on the agenda to
allow for a report on the MMOW program.
B. Call A Ride Southlake– This item is a standing item on the agenda to allow for
a report on the CARS program.
C. SPIN -- This is a standing item to inform the Commission about SPIN
meetings pertaining to developments in Southlake. SPIN meetings are public
opportunities to support or oppose proposed developments as City Council
receives a SPIN Report, including the expressed support/opposition of
attendees, for proposed development. For more information, please visit

The following SPIN meeting(s) were scheduled:
Monday, January 6, SPIN Forum, Town Hall at 6pm
Topic: Proposed relocation of Christ Our King Church, currently located at the
corner of E. Southlake Blvd. and S. Kimball Avenue. Christ Our King
plans to build a single church building of 14,000sf on 3.9 acres at 595
S. Kimball Avenue.

Topic: Proposed construction of an approximately 270 room hotel on 6.8
acres located on Grace Lane, off of SH114.
Topic: Proposed 15.5 acre development on the northwest corner of N. Kimball
Avenue and SH114. The development would include a restaurant, a
coffee shop, retail uses, a multi-story office complex, a Cambria Suites
Hotel, and designated open spaces.
D. Senior Services Coordinator – This is an opportunity for the Senior Services
Coordinator to present information about existing and futur e programs and
activities.
E. Southlake Senior Funding, Inc. – This item is a standing item on the agenda
to allow for a report on Southlake Senior Funding, Inc., (SSFI).
F. City Manager’s Office & Community Services – This is a standing item on the
agenda to allow for an update from the City’s Communications and Website
Manager Pilar Schank and Deputy Director of Community Services Kari
Happold regarding current developments.
5. Agenda Item No. 5. Public Forum: – This is the public's opportunity to address the
Commission about non-agenda items. During Public Forum, the Commission will not
discuss or take action on any item presented. The Commissions' options during this
topic are 1) to listen, 2) ask questions and respond to the presenter only, 3) request
staff to look into the issue and report back to the Commission and/or 4) request that
the Chair put the item on a future agenda for the Commission to discuss or consider.

1. CALL TO ORDER
Chairman McCauley called the meeting of the Senior Advisory Commission to
order at 1:04 p.m.
2. CONSENT AGENDA Consent Agenda items are considered to be routine by the
Commission and are enacted with one motion. Chair McCauley read the consent
agenda items into the record.
2A. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES FROM THE OCTOBER 8, 2013 REGULAR SENIOR
ADVISORY COMMISSION.

3. DISCUSSION:
3A. CARE REPORT BULLETIN BOARD
Communications & Website Manager Pilar Schank and SAC Secretary Marge
Kyle presented ideas for the “thoughts and prayers board” to be located in the
Senior Center Library to post information such as illnesses, funerals, obituaries,
absences, etc. by Senior Ambassadors and staff once the information has been
released publicly. Ambassadors will use the information to start a “call-tree” to
contact members. MMOW may deliver meals if adequate advance notice is
provided.
3B. INTRODUCTION OF NEWLY APPOINTED SAC MEMBERS
City Council recently reappointed David Baltimore and Marge Kyle to the Senior
Advisory Commission. Also appointed was new SAC member Barbara Pappy.
4. REPORTS
4A. METROPORT MEALS ON WHEELS
MMOW representative Mary King extended an invitation to Southlake seniors to
attend a Grapevine event to honor seniors on November 25, 2013 as guests of
MMOW. The MMOW monthly participation report was distributed. Suggestions
for the congregate meals were discussed.
4B. CALL A RIDE SOUTHLAKE
CARS representative Neal Perkins distributed the CARS monthly participation
summary and reported increases in ridership. Brighton Greene was introduced
as the new CARS chairman.

There was no SPIN report this meeting.

4D. SENIOR SERVICES COORDINATOR
Senior Services Coordinator Soheila Phelps reported about the SSFI
sponsorship provided by Five Star Ford for the November 15, 2013 Fall Foliage
Trail trip to Athens, Texas; December Events Calendar; implementation of a
Suggestion Box; the Center holiday schedule; and a holiday party for seniors
December 20, 2013.
4E. SOUTHLAKE SENIOR FUNDING, INC.
Southlake Senior Funding, Inc., Board Director McCauley reported on SSFI
developments concerning potential donations and summarized a recent SSFI
meeting held with City staff to discuss ways SSFI funds may be best used for
senior activities and programs. Proposed ideas to be presented at a future SAC
meeting.
4F. CITY MANAGER’S OFFICE & COMMUNITY SERVICES
Communications & Website Manager Pilar Schank responded to questions and
reported on City activities including the Boards and Commissions Appreciation
Reception to be held November 23; the January 14, 2014 Grand Opening of the
DPS North Training Facility; weather alert; curbside leaf recycling on November
20; and an increase in development projects.
Deputy Director Kari Happold encouraged SAC members to attend the Boards
and Commissions Appreciation Reception and the Home for the Holidays
activities November 23, 2013 and provided an update on latest developments
concerning the community recreation center.
5. PUBLIC FORUM
Chair McCauley opened the public forum and asked for anyone wishing to speak
to come forward. There being no one to speak during public forum, Chair
McCauley closed the public forum.
6. CONSIDER
6A. ELECTION OF OFFICERS FOR SENIOR ADVISORY COMMISSION
The current SAC officers were nominated and elected.

A motion was made to continue the current officers in their existing officer
positions. (Chair – Dick McCauley, Vice Chair – Nancy Sporn and Secretary –
Marge Kyle)

June-September senior center calendars will be include with the written report to
Council.

There were no changes to the Report.
A motion was made to approve the Senior Advisory Commission Report to City
Council as proposed with the addition of the calendars.
