SUBJECT: Agenda Item Comments for Senior Advisory Commission Meeting
Tuesday, November'10, 2009 at 2:00 p.m.
Just a friendly reminder -- Senior Advisory Commission photos will be taken at this
meeting!
Also, please note the meeting time and location has been changed to: Bob Jones
Nature Center, 355 East Bob Jones Road. The meeting will start at 2:00 p.m.
1. Agenda Item No. 2, Administrative Comments:
A. City Council Member Update — Chairman Baltimore has invited City Council
member Brandon Bledsoe to attend the meeting to provide an update on
current issues with the city.
B. Bob Jones Nature Center Presentation — Bob Tones Nature Center
Recreation Aide Elaine Parry will provide an overview of the functions and
programs offered at the center and preserve.
C. Invitation to APEX Arks League Concert — The APEX Arts League and the
Southlake Senior Center will host a concert, "Chamber Music at The
Chamber," Sunday, November 15 at 2.00 p.m. in the Southlake Town Hall
lobby. Volunteers are needed for this event.
D. Metroport Meals on Wheels Volunteers Needed for Tuesday Luncheons —
Metroport Meals on Wheels is seeking volunteers in our community who
would like to help with the Tuesday Luncheons by serving and/or helping with
the clean up.
2. Aaenda Item No. 3A. Consent: Approval of the Minutes from the October 13 2009
regular Senior Advisory _Commission meeting. Should you have any changes or
additions to these minutes, please let Amanda Troum, Senior Services Coordinator,
know in advance and/or make it part of the motion for consideration. Amanda may

3. Agenda Item No. 4. Public Forum --- This is the public's opportunity to address the
Commission about non -agenda items. During this proceeding it is important that the
Commission not deliberate (discuss among yourselves) or take action on any item
brought up at this time. The Commissions' options during this topic are 1) to listen, 2)
ask questions and respond to the presenter only, 3) request staff to look into the

issue and report back to the Commission and/or 4) request that the Chair put the
item on a future agenda for the Commission to discuss or consider.
4. Agenda Item No. 5.R_eport: CARS — This item is a standing item on the agenda to
allow for an update on CARS issues and provide statistical reports.
5. Agenda Item No. 6. Report: Southlake Senior Activities — This item is a standing
item in order for the Commission members to receive information about monthly
events and activities.
6. Agenda Item No. 7. Report: Metroport Meals on Wheels - This standing item allows
monthly and quarterly reports to the Commission from M1VI4W representatives Mary
King or Darla Fowler and to discuss present and future issues with the program.
7. Agenda Item No. 8. Report: Facilities Update -- Current & Future/New — This item is
a standing item for the Commission members to receive information about progress
being made in connection with current and future facilities.
8. Agenda Item No. 9. Consider: Cancellation of December 8 2009 Senior Adviso
Commission Meeting - This item is placed on the agenda to allow the Commission
the opportunity to discuss and decide whether to cancel the December 8, 2009 SAC
meeting.
9. A enda Item No. 10. Discussion: Committee for the Grand Reopening of the Senior
Center — The Commission, in conjunction with City Staff, will discuss plans and
make assignments for the upcoming Senior Center Grand Reopening event to be
held Tuesday, December 15, 2009. Some of the issues for discussion are:
decorations, table host, front door greeters, entertainment, presentations, emcee
and invitations.
10. Other items of Interest: An advertisement for the upcoming Home for the Holidays is
included in your packet in case you wish to attend this city event.

Agenda Item No. 1. Call to Order
Chairman David Baltimore called the meeting to order at 1:54p.m.
Agenda Item No. 2. Administrative Comments
Senior Services Coordinator Amanda Troum invited all Senior Advisory
Commission members to attend the "City of Southlake Boards and Commissions
Reception" on Tuesday, October 20, 5:30pm — 7:30pm at the Town Hall Building.
Ms. Troum also complimented all those who helped with the move of the Senior
Center to the Carroll Intermediate School.
Agenda Item No. 3A. Approval of the September 8 2009 Senior Advisory
Commission meeting minutes.
A motion was made to approve the minutes as presented.

Agenda Item No. 5. Report: CARS (Dick.McCauley)
Dick McCauley reported that CARS usage have increased 30% within the past
three months. He and Jamie Bryant, from Watermere Retirement Community,
are currently working on marketing in the community and planning a reception to
meet and greet other associations in the community. Mr. McCauley also reported
that CARS will be at the upcoming Senior Empowering Conference on October
29.
Agenda Item No. 6. Report: Southlake Senior Activities (Nancy Sporn)
Nancy Sporn, liaison for the Steering Committee, reported on the many activities
that occurred in the past month including the Tuesday Luncheons that were held
at Whites Chapel United Methodist Church during the month of September. She
also reported on the entertainment that included a performance by "Granny G."
Ms. Sporn reported that in September the attendance numbers were 650 people
and that the attendance numbers are remaining the same from previous months
even with the move.
Agenda Item No. 7. Report: Metroport Meals on Wheels (Darla Fowled
Darla Fowler reported that the Thanksgiving meal will be on Tuesday, November
17, and the Christmas meal would be served on Tuesday, December 15. No
meals will be served on Tuesday, November 24, and Tuesday, December 22.
Ms. Fowler stated that she was already working on the New Years Celebration to
be held on Tuesday, December 29.
Agenda Item No. 8 Report: Facilities Update — Current & Future/New
Kerry McGeath, Deputy Director of Community Services, reported that the City is
hiring a facilities consultant to examine the needs of the city for a Community
Center.
Other non -agenda items
A. New Business: Transportation Project T Dick McCauley
David Baltimore, Chair, recognized Dick McCauley to present some new
business. Dick McCauley updated the Commission on a "new transportation
project" he is working on with City staff to gain a more "senior friendly" vehicle for
transportation. He will keep the Commission updated on this project.

B. Proposal: Senior Advisory Commission Meeting to be held at different
City Locations:
Chair Baltimore proposed that future Commission meetings be held at different
City locations and that we ask an employee of that facility to speak to the group.
