Agenda Item No. 2A. Consent: Approval of the minutes from the March 24, 2015 regular Southlake Arts Council meeting – Please make any corrections to the minutes part of the motion. 2. Agenda Item No. 3A. Consider: Recommendation on finalists from Call to Artists for public art for the roundabout at Dove Road and Peytonville Avenue/Sam School Road and for The Marq Southlake - The purpose of this item is to allow the Arts Council to review submittals from the Call to Artists for public art for the roundabout at Dove Road and Peytonville Avenue/Sam School Road and for The Marq Southlake and to select finalists for each project. The City of Southlake released a national Call to Artists for the two projects in March 2015 and a total of twenty-two (22) responses were received. Funding for public art pieces has been allocated in each project budget. Copies of the artists’ submittals are included in your packet for review and recommendation. 3. Agenda Item No. 4A. Discussion: Future Public Art Opportunities – This is a standing item that allows the Southlake Arts Council to discuss and brainstorm upcoming opportunities for public art. Items to be discussed at this meeting include a fall art exhibit, holiday art exhibit, a potential Arts Council and Apex sponsored event at The Marq Southlake, a potential juried art exhibit, and an Arts Council and Apex sponsored film festival. Other future public art opportunities may also be discu ssed at this time. There are no packet documents for this item. 4. Agenda Item No. 5. PUBLIC FORUM: This is the public's opportunity to address the Arts Council about non-agenda items. During this proceeding the Arts Council will not discuss or take action on any item brought up at this time. 5. Art in the Square – Southlake’s annual Art in the Square festival will be held in Town Square April 24 – 26. 7. CISD Art Exhibit – The annual CISD Art Exhibit will be held in Town Hall April 24 – 26 in conjunction with Art in the Square. 8. Summer Kickoff – Join the City of Southlake as we kickoff the summer on May 30, 10:00 am – 1:00 pm, in Southlake Town Square. Participants can register for Recreation programs, the Library Summer Reading Program and enjoy live entertainment, inflatables, games and more. 9. Masterworks Music Series – Enjoy live music from The Space Rockers in Rustin Park on May 30 from 11:00 am – 12:30 pm. CONSIDER 3A. RECOMMENDATION ON REVISED MURALS FOR BJ’S RESTAURANT & BREWHOUSE Deputy Director Candice Edmondson presented the revised concepts for the two murals for BJ’s Restaurant at East Southlake Blvd and North Kimball Avenue. The murals are proposed for the front entry elevation and the rear elevation and depict agricultural and Texas scenes. City of Southlake Principal Planner Daniel Cortez and BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse representative Joan Leguay were present to respond to questions and to receive the Art Council’s feedback on the proposed murals. Arts Council member Christina Esparza arrived 6:16 p.m. APPROVED A motion was made to recommend approval of the revised murals for BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse with the recommendation that the beverage glasses be removed from the mural scenes. Motion: Cook Second: McMillan Ayes: Cook, Esparza, McMillan, Messing and Murray Nays: None Abstain: None Vote: 5-0 Motion Carried. 4. DISCUSSION 4A. THE MARQ SOUTHLAKE, PHASE I OPERATIONS UPDATE Deputy Director Candice Edmondson opened the discussion by playing the marketing video for The Marq Southlake. Proposed rental fees, alcohol and catering services and hours of operation for the facility were reviewed. Staff was available to answer questions from the Arts Council. FUTURE PUBLIC ART OPPORTUNITIES The Arts Council discussed the Fall Art Exhibit, a potential Holiday Exhibit, and an APEX and Arts Council event at The Marq Southlake. In addition to these events, the Arts Council discussed a possible summer art exhibit, perhaps in conjunction with the City of Keller, and a Film Festival. The Arts Council would like to receive information about upcoming community and arts events. 5. PUBLIC FORUM No one was present to address the Arts Council during Public Forum. 6. Background Information: Two (2) Call to Artists were released in March 2015 to local, regional and national artists requesting proposals for public art to be placed in the City’s fifth roundabout and at The Marq Southlake. The City received 22 unique responses from the calls. Twenty of the proposals are for both projects, with two exclusive for The Marq Southlake. Copies of the proposals are attached for your review and recommendation. As a reminder, the timeline below is being followed for the process to acquire the public art.
