For the Southlake location, the developer is proposing two different mural concepts. Before proceeding with final concept design and approval, the developer would like to seek feedback from the Southlake Arts Council on the proposed mural concepts. The proposed concepts are attached to this memo for your review. According to the developer, Artist Mark McIntosh created a series of murals for BJ’s Restaurants - two of which are proposed for the exterior façade of the Southlake restaurant (one on the front entry elevation and one on the rear elevation). The murals depict turn of the century laborers and their relentless commitment to their livelihood. BJ’s embraces this ideal and strives for this same excellence in the execution of their business. Additional information on the inspiration behind the mural concepts is attached to this memo. The murals will be created on a material suited for an exterior application. The murals will be printed using a four color process with UV cured inks on a 13 ounce front lit vinyl material. The murals will be stretched over an aluminum square tube reinforced frame. The exposed perimeter frame is painted black and measures 2½ inches wide. The UV inks provide protection from fading even in installations with direct sun exposure on a year round basis. 4B - 1 Southlake Arts Council Meeting Date – June 10, 2014 Page 2 of 2 City of Southlake Values: Integrity ♦ Innovation ♦ Accountability ♦ Commitment to Excellence ♦ Teamwork Financial Considerations: There is no additional cost to the City for approval of the BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse murals Strategic Link: This item is linked to the City’s Strategy Map related to the focus area of Quality Development and Partnerships & Volunteerism and meets the corporate objectives to provide attractive and unique spaces for enjoyment of personal interests and to promote opportunities for partnerships and volunteer involvement. In the early 1900s people came from Eastern and Southern Europe—Bohemians, Lithuanians, Italians, Russians, Greeks, Hungarians, Austrians, Poles, and Eastern European Jews—flooded into the United States looking for opportunity and work. Often unskilled and with limited English, these workers found work in agriculture, factories, ironworks, and steel industries. They labored long hours. Within neighborhoods, institutions like taverns brought people together with offers of fellowship, food and drink. Today BJ’s, a contemporary American brewhouse follows that great tradition. Our restaurants are welcoming, energetic and fun. Our culture of striving to say “yes” to every request from our guest helps us to earn their loyalty and trust. We have the commitment and courage to put quality and absolute guest satisfaction ahead of cost. We do whatever it takes to consistently and correctly serve great food, beer and beverages to our guests. We understand that when our guests choose to spend their hard earned dollar at one of our restaurants they deserve the best. Our murals celebrate these turn of the century pioneers and continue to remind us of our commitment to our guests. 4B - 6 1 Leslie Bartlett a 0 a a a 100%4.5 2014 94% 2 Merlene Ingraham a 0 a a r 75%4 3 Jesika Cook a 0 a a a 100%4.5 4 Terri Messing a 0 a a a 100%4.5 5 Lamberto Alvarez a 0 a a r 75%4 6 Miriam Murray a 0 a a a 100%4.5 7 Tamara McMillan a 0 a a a 100%4.5 8 - Alt 1 Christina Esparza a 0 a a a 100%4.5 Total 0% 100%100%100%75%a In attendance Total Hrs Per Month 1 0 1 2 0.5 4.5 r Not in attendance, no substitute m Substitute in attendance n Vacant position 0 Meeting Canceled *Meeting Canceled due to no quorum Change in Representative Average Monthly Attendance Rate Meeting Attendance Rate (includes substitutions) 4/23/14 A joint meeting of the Arts Council and Library met at 6pm, followed by the regular Arts Council meeting at 6:30pm. 8/26/14 9/23/14 10/28/14 11/25/14 12/23/14 Individual Attendance Rate Southlake Arts Council Attendance Report Place Name 1/28/14 2/25/14 3/25/14 4/23/14 5/27/14 6/10/14 7/22/14 Hrs To Date Packet Insert - Attendance Report
