Consent: Approval of the minutes from the January 24, 2012 Southlake Arts Council meeting – Please make any corrections to the minutes part of the motion. 2. Agenda Item No. 3A. Recommendation on permit from Southlake Arts Council, CISD Art Department, City of Southlake Public Library and Art In The Square organization to display CISD Art Exhibit April 26–29, 2012 in Town Hall during the Art In the Square event – The purpose of this permit is to allow an exhibit in Town Hall that will feature over 200 art pieces, selected by art teachers from grades K-12 Carroll School District art classes. The exhibit will consist of both floor and wall displays. The location and type of displays will be: 2nd Floor Town Hall Main Lobby Freestanding floor display, not to exceed 30% of the floor space 3rd Floor Training Rooms (B-C-D) Combination wall and floor display 2nd Floor Courtroom Lobby Floor display 1st Floor lobby, outside Library Floor display Sponsors of the CISD art exhibit include Southlake Arts Council, Southlake Public Library, CISD art department and Art In The Square organization. The exhibit will be managed and maintained by City of Southlake Public Library staff with CISD art teachers who will monitor the displays during the Art In the Square event. Deputy Director McGeath is the liaison for the exhibition and will coordinate set up and tear down of the art work. The exhibition is not a fundraising event, but is held the same weekend as Art In the Square as an additional cultural event for that weekend. Approval of the permit for the CISD art exhibit will have no financial impact on City budgets. A copy of the Permit is attached to your packet memo. 3. Agenda Item No. 4A. Discussion: “Winter Art in Town Hall” Reception – The reception was held Sunday, February 19, 2012 in the Town Hall Lobby area as a kick-off event for the upcoming Art In the Square event in April. Please bring your thoughts and observations about the event to the meeting next Tuesday for a wrap - up discussion. 4. Agenda Item No. 5. PUBLIC FORUM: This is the public's opportunity to address the Arts Council about non-agenda items. During this proceeding it is important that the council not deliberate (discuss among yourselves) or take action on any item brought up at this time. The Arts Councils' options during this topic are 1) to listen; 2) ask questions and respond to the presenter only; 3) request staff to look into the issue and report back to the Arts Council; and/or 4) request that the chair put the item on a future agenda for the Arts Council to discuss or consider. The name of the reception was 38 changed to “Winter Art in Town Hall.” Members talked about the lobby floor space plan 39 to include approximately 30 chairs, a designated section for the entertainment (flute & 40 harp duet), tables for refreshments and an area to mingle. A program for the reception 41 will be developed by City Communications Manager Pilar Schank and Deputy McGeath 42 to include brief speeches from each of the sponsorship organizations, introduction of the 43 artists, a mini concert and continuous background music following the program. The item was discussed by the Southlake Arts Council. City Council will 22 consider the permit request February 7, 2012. 23 24 A motion was made, seconded and unanimously approved (6-0) to recommend City 25 Council approve the permit to display “Winter Art in Town Hall” art work in the Town Hall 26 lobby February 17 – April 16, 2012. 27 28 Agenda Item No. 3C – Consider: Review and selection of art from Call to Artist to 29 be included in the “Art In Southlake” exhibition February 17 – April 16, 2012 in 30 Town Hall lobby – Deputy Director McGeath presented artist submittals received from 31 the regional Call to Artists. The Arts Council reviewed the entries and eight (8) 32 submittals were selected by the Arts Council to be included in the exhibit to be 33 displayed in the Town Hall lobby February 17 – April 16, 2012. Two pieces each from 34 the following artist were selected: Betty Nash, Jerald Paterson, Barbara Mason and 35 Gregory Arth. City Council will consider the permit request at the February 7, 2012 36 meeting. 37 38 A motion was made, seconded and unanimously approved (6-0) to recommend City 39 Council approve the four artists and eight selected art pieces as indicated for display in 40 the “Winter Art in Town Hall” exhibit in the Town Hall lobby February 17 – April 16, 41 2012. 42 43 Agenda Item No. 4 – Discussion: Assignment of duties and responsibilities for 44 the “Art In Southlake” art gallery reception to be held February 19, 2012 – This 45 item was discussed and assignments made to committee members.
