The Arts Council discussed Hines' proposal. Concern was expressed that the piece was not an original art piece created by an artist but rather a reproduction. It could be considered as an architectural design element instead of art work. Moving forward, the Arts Council was encouraged to follow the pending Public Art Master Plan definition for art work when considering a selection. The developer expressed willingness to look at options and the possibility of commissioning future pieces with an artist, recognizing the cost factor may limit the number and style of pieces. The proposal was approved (4-1) by the Artist Selection Committee November 15, 2011. City Council will consider the proposal December 6, 2011.
