Item 11ACity of Southlake Department of Planning MEMORANDUM December 28, 2005 TO: The Honorable Mayor and City Council FROM: Ken Baker, AICP, Planning Director SUBJECT: Discussion Item — Comprehensive Plan Amendment Process and Application In an effort to effectively implement the land use recommendations of the Southlake 2025 Plan and to maintain consistency between the plan and zoning, staff is recommending that a comprehensive plan amendment be required for any zoning change application that is not consistent with the Southlake 2025 Plan. The amendment process will provide flexibility in response to changing circumstances and will accommodate changes that meet the intent of the Southlake 2025 Plan, while ensuring that zoning is in accordance with the plan. Every comprehensive plan amendment will be processed as a resolution. Attached with this memo is the proposed application. All new zoning requests that are not consistent with the Southlake 2025 Plan will be required to include a comprehensive plan amendment application beginning with the January 17, 2006 pre - submittal deadline. Please review the attached application for a discussion at your January 3, 2006 regular meeting. Please feel free to give me a call if you have further questions. ACTION NEEDED: None at this time. An explanation of how the requested land use designation is compatible with surrounding land use designations. c.
