Agenda Item No. 1, Call to Order
The meeting was called to order by Chair Jeane Alexander at 1:15 p.m.
Agenda Item No. 2, Approval of the September 12, 2000 minutes
Connie Montague made a motion to approve the September 12, 2000 minutes. The
motion was seconded by David Baltimore and approved unanimously.
Agenda Item No. 3, Administrative Comments
Nona Whitehead introduced Councilmember DuPre and Library Administrator Terry
McLaughlin. David Baltimore extended an invitation for Councilmember DePre to attend
future Commission meetings. Councilmember DuPre encouraged members of the
Commission to contact her with questions or concerns related to the budget or any other
items.
Nona explained that Technical Services would be bringing three computers to the Senior
Activity Center classroom. The intent is that they will donate and maintain the computers
in exchange for using the room for employee training on Fridays when the classroom is
not scheduled.
Nona also noted that MMOW had accepted the minor wording changes in the contract
language and that the contract was expected to be on the October 17`h City Council
agenda.
Agenda Item No. 4, Presentation: Terry McLaughlin, Library Administrator
Councilmember DuPre shared some of the City Council concerns regarding the long term
funding needs of the library in addition to the expenses related to opening the library in
this restricted budget year.

Library Administrator Terry McLaughlin explained some of the responsibilities related to
opening a library. Furniture has been selected, processing needs addressed and there is
still quite an involved process ongoing in relation to the books currently at the Grapevine
library. Terry explained that there is movement in the State Legislature regarding a
possible statewide library card.
Mr. McLaughlin said that the anticipated opening would be in May with about 25,000 to
30,000 volumes. The capacity at the Town Hall facility is about 45,000 volumes. The
inventory will include about $800,000 worth of books, audio, etc. Terry noted that
individuals can donate books and magazine subscriptions through the Friends of the
Library organization. The proposed schedule will have the library open about 44 hours
over a six days and include evening hours two days a week staffed by 3 professional
librarians, 3 clerks and part time volunteers.
Councilmember DuPre offered to arrange a tour of the new Town Hall and the Library.
She and Terry will meet the Commission at the Town Hall on November 14th in place of
the regular Advisory Commission meeting.
Agenda Item No. 5, Report: Metroport Meals on Wheels
Sonja presented the statistical information for the month and for the quarter. Nona
requested that she consider breaking out the food related items from the paper supplies for
a more reflective view of the actual food costs.
Agenda Item No. 6, Report: Southlake Seniors
Tom Furey reported that there is a new monthly Music Lovers program that started last
month. Tom also highlighted the book review by Mary Simmons and the travelogue on
Korea.
Agenda Item No. 7, Open Forum
It was confirmed that the November meeting would be replaced by the Town Hall tour
and that the focus of the December meeting would be to consider whether there were any
questions related to the budget, that would warrant a presentation from City staff.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 2:15 p.m.
