November 13, 2001- Senior Activity Center

Agenda Item No. 1, Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 2:00 p.m.
Agenda Item No. 2 Approval of the 10/09/01 Minutes:
Cleta moved and Connie seconded the motion to approve the minutes. They were approved
unanimously.
Agenda Item No. 3 Report on Cell Phone 911 Proiect by Mike
Mike reported that everything is ready for kick-off for the distribution of the 911 cell phones.
Thursday, December 6'h at 1 PM has been set for the training and distribution of the phones. An
announcement will be made at the Tuesday luncheon.
Mike also spoke regarding an "Are you OK? Program. He had been out of state looking at such
systems and priced them out at approximately $50,000. However, this type of system has
multiple uses and the City could use it for all types of Alerts. The current program is being
handled out of Haltom City and unfortunately is not working very well at this time.
Agenda Item No. 4 Metroport Meals on Wheels (MMOW):
Mary distributed the report for October. The numbers look very good. The total expenses were
$1,086.93 and the income was $1,240.90. The variety and quality of foods offered has been
exceptional. Linda was commended for doing a wonderful job. In addition, morale has improved
and seniors are enjoying coming to the center.
Mary announced that MMOW would be moving to their new space on November 151'. The new
address will be 428 Hwy. 377, Roanoke, TX 76262. December 181i will be the Open House
event.
Agenda Item No. 5 Administrative Comments
Joanne reported that the Senior Activity Center has received a donation in the amount $2,700
from the Community Fest proceeds of St. Francis Catholic Family. This will be posted to the
donation account. We will meet at the Center on 11/29 for our annual "Hanging of the Greens"
and everyone is invited to attend. A trip to the Grapevine Opry is planned for Saturday,

Agenda Item No. 6 Southlake Senior Activities
Tom reported on the many activities at the Center. He highlighted the Barn Party, book review,
sing-a-long and the music lovers programs. In addition, Tom explained the Art Council in
Southlake and how to apply by calling Emily Galpin at the Parks department.
Agenda Item No. 7 Open Forum
The Wal*Mart issue was discussed briefly. David said that he thought the Mayor was still talking
to them to get them to stay in Southlake. Apparently that issue has not been decided yet.
A discussion regarding the pool and the times for seniors to use it was held. No one from the
Advisory Commission has been contacted regarding senior's usage. David suggested that we ask
Steve Polasek to arrange for a tour of the pool and facility for our January meeting.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 2:45 PM.
