Agenda Item No. 7 Discussion of Senior Aquatic Programs:
John discussed the current programming and usage of the pool. He offered that there is currently
a water aerobic class that would be appropriate for seniors. Several seniors in attendance
indicated they would like to take the class. Several other programs were discussed. John will
check into possibly putting an arthritis class together, however, the pool temperature is too cool
for a therapeutic class. The hot tub may be a good alternative especially if only 4 or 6 seniors
want to come at a time. John urged all seniors to come to the Aquatic Center and register and let
them know about particular classes they would like to attend. He stated that he needs a minimum
of 4 participants (signed up) and then he can begin the class. Basically, the best time for seniors
to use the pool is between 9 AM and 2 PM.
Brochures were available for everyone. It was noted on the brochure that senior discounts began
at age 65. The senior age at the Senior Activity Center is 55. John was asked if it would be
possible to change the age to 55 for the Aquatic Center in order to keep everything consistent.
John said he would check with the Commission. David Baltimore recommended that a senior
representative be on the Aquatic Committee to voice the senior input regarding programming.
Steve Moore said he would bring that request to Kevin Hugman, Director, Community Services
and to Steve Polasek, Deputy Director.
