Agenda Item No. 1, Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 1:17 p.m..
Agenda Item No. 2 Approval of the 03/12/02 Minutes:
Bill Cosgrove moved and Connie Montague seconded the motion to approve the minutes. They
were approved unanimously. No meeting was held in April due to lack of a quorum.
Agenda Item No. 3 Administrative Comments:
The trip to Mineral Wells was discussed and everyone had a good time. The next Cell Phone
distribution is scheduled for Tuesday, June 11th immediately following lunch. The Health and
Fitness Fair will be Saturday, June 8th at the City Park in Colleyville. Everyone is urged to attend,
as there will be many booths available with senior information. We need to have a good showing
of our seniors present. Joanne mentioned the procedure to follow for those whose SAC term is
expiring which is to obtain an application from the City Secretary's office and complete and return
as soon as possible. Joanne discussed the budget process and solicited any ideas or comments.
Agenda Item No. 4 Southlake Senior Activities:
Tom presented an overview of the many activities at the Center. Among the highlights were the
lunches, games, New classical movies and sing-alongs. He also mention the many programs and
entertainment available through the Library. The Library Adult Book Group meets at the Senior
Activity Center on the 4th Monday of each Month.
Agenda Item No. 5 Metroport Meals on Wheels (MMOW
The number of participants is going up each month. For Bingo we had 76. The meals have been
excellent. The restaurants we use in Southlake have been very accommodating. Mary said that
MMOW would again be asking for $10,000 to help defray the cost of the Tuesday program.
Linda has done an excellent job organizing the meals and the restaurants. The seniors continue to
enjoy the Bingo prizes. Mary added that business is going great for MMOW Resale Shop,
Sadie's. Therefore, seniors will receive a discount on all purchases on Wednesdays. Home
delivered meals continue to be supplied by Marriott Solana.
Agenda Item No. 6 Senior Activity Center Policy Update:
A discussion followed regarding the recommendations from Steve Polasek, Deputy Director,
Community Services. It was moved by David Baltimore, seconded by Bill Cosgrove to accept
the recommendation effective immediately. Motion passed unanimously. It was mentioned that
perhaps the seniors would like to have more activities in the evening and on the weekends. It was
suggested that some ideas might include: Trunk/garage salelbake sale/craft sale and have the
proceeds or a portion of the proceeds go to the Center for a particular fund such as transportation
or perhaps a specific item for the Center. Joanne will find out if we can do a sale type of event on
City property and so forth.
Agenda Item No. 7 Open Forum:
Jerry Montague opened the discussion regarding the Remington. He stated that it would be
coming before the City Council in May and he urged the seniors to support this endeavor.
Bill Kyle reported on the Cell Phone 911 Project. We have an abundance of cell phones at this
time and we are not actively seeking donations. Our next cell phone distribution date will be
Tuesday, June 11th immediately following lunch at the Center.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 1:55 PM.
