2003-02-11 i CITY OF SOUTHLAKE SENIOR ADVISORY COMMISSION February 11, 2003 - Senior Activity Center MEMBERS AND ALTERNATES PRESENT: Jeane Alexander, Tom Furey, Bill Kyle, Marge Kyle, Linda Moore, Cleta Pierce, Connie and Jerry Montague. MEMBERS AND ALTERNATES ABSENT: David Baltimore, Bill Cosgrove EX OFFICIO MEMBERS AND GUESTS PRESENT: Mary King, Executive Director, MMOW Linda Braun, MMOW Coordinator STAFF PRESENT: Joanne Leek, Community Services Coordinator Agenda Item No. 1. Call to Order The meeting was called to order by Chair Jeane Alexander at 1:20 PM Agenda Item No. 2, Approval of the January 14, 2003 minutes Connie Montague made a motion to approve the minutes. The motion was seconded Marge Kyle and was approved by a unanimous, vote. Agenda Item No. 3. CARS Report CARS did not provide a representative or report for the meeting. Tom Furey made a motion to send a note to the City Secretary, City Council, Malcolm Jackson and the CARS Executive Board of Directors noting that CARS has not complied with the recommendation that a representative be present at the Commission meetings on a monthly basis. The motion was seconded by Cleta Pierce and passed unanimously. A letter will be drafted for signature by Chair Jeane Alexander. Agenda Item No. 4. Report: Southlake Senior Activities Tom reported on the many activities at the Center. He highlighted the upcoming Valentine's Luncheon, sponsored by the Greater Southlake Women's Club, the Sweetheart Dance on the 22nd at the Carroll High School. In addition, the monthly book review, the Heart Talk presentation hosted by the Grapevine Newcomers' Club on Feb. 27, and the Tai Chi classes on Thursday Mornings all make for a busy time at the Center. Agenda Item No. 5. Report: Metroport Meals on Wheels Mary King distributed copies of the monthly financial report, which was very good. The fi~ures are within budget guidelines. Quality of the food has been excellent and the programming has been well received. The numbers are increasing. Linda reported that she felt everything was going well. Agenda Item No. 6, Report: Administrative Comments Joanne reported on the trip to Austin. Jeane Alexander and Cleta Pierce accompanied the seniors to Austin. It was a full trip, stopping at several museums plus the activities at the Capitol. We will start planning for the trip next year to the Capitol. Southlake is going to collaborate with Keller, Colleyville, and Lewisville in order to be able to offer more trip opportunities to the seniors. A trip to the Islands of New England in late August is in the works for this year. Azenda No. 7, Open Forum: Tom mentioned that perhaps we should sent a note-of appreciation to Robert Williams, Edward Jones, and to the Greater Southlake Women's Club for their contributions to our Center. Thank you letters have already been-done; perhaps we could do something else. There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 2:00 PM. ane Alexander, Chair At
