Agenda Item No. 2, Approval of the March 10, 1998 Minutes
Fran Weiser moved to approve the minutes. The motion was seconded by Martha
Greenberg, and the minutes were approved unanimously.
Agenda Item No. 3, Administrative Comments
Shelli Siemer announced that since Nona Whitehead would be responsible for the activities
at the Senior Activity Center, she will now assume the additional responsibilities as liaison
with the Senior Advisory Commission.
Nona Whitehead mentioned that Dick Johnston would review the wording of the Senior
Advisory Ordinance Monday, April 20 at her desk. All members were encouraged to
attend. This meeting was scheduled in order to get the proposed revised ordinance before
the City Council by May 7, in time to get the extra appointment included the May
appointments.
Agenda Item No. 4, Presentation on City Street and House Signage
Dick Johnston introduced Director of Public Works Bob Whitehead who presented
information on signage. The readability of signs, both day and night was the first issue
discussed. Mr. Whitehead indicated that the cost of painting and maintaining curb numbers
was not something he would volunteer to add to his budget. He recommended that painting
curbs could be a fund raiser for youth groups. Fran Weiser asked about having a
requirement for readable house signs. Director Whitehead mentioned that Pamela Muller is
working on the sign ordinance and might welcome input about that issue. Mr. Whitehead
also addressed the issue of the size of street signs. Mr. Whitehead said that if residents
notice signs that are faded, hard to read, or in need of replacement, they can call his
department to request the sign be replaced. The newer signs are larger that the ones in the
older subdivisions.
Dick Johnston suggested that Fran Weiser write down any thoughts for a recommendation
to the City Council regarding signage visibility needs of our senior residents. This issue will
be a consideration item on next month's agenda.
Agenda Item No. 5, Report: Metroport Meals On Wheels - March Stats
Rose Hampshire passed out the report. 262 meals were served in March. 215 of the meals
were served to seniors. Rose will be attending a Conference on Aging in April and will
give a report to the Senior Advisory Commission in May. Dick Johnston asked about
getting a report on home delivered meals. Rose Hampshire will look into getting those
statistics.

Shelli Siemer reported that April 30 is the day for the volunteer recognition event. There
will be a ribbon cutting at 6:30 p.m. at the Sr. Activity Center. She requested that

concerning the need for affordable housing units in Southlake, as this is a stated goal for the
Senior Advisory Commission.
