1998-01-27 Southlake Seniors Steering Committee Meeting Minutes January 27, 1998 Attendance: Josh Weiser, Bill and Dorothy Cosgrove, Fran Weiser, Don Owens, Bill and Betty Hut- son, Rose Hampshire, Shellie Siemer Chairman Josh Weiser called the meeting to order. The group expressed appreciation to josh and Rose for the fine Senior Citizen presentation at the Chamber of Commerce Awards Dinner, Friday evening, January 16. Josh gave an excellent introduc- tion to our award recipient, Thelma Jones, declared a most worthy candidate. The cost of the beauti- ful plaque was $50.64, and the city paid for a table of Southlake Seniors who attended. Rose, Diane and Quentin Collins were also present. The annual meeting of the Southlake Seniors will be held in April. Betty Hutson made a motion to have a committee of seniors investigate the possibility of presenting volunteer awards at that meeting and discuss this with Rose and bring a report to the February Steering Committee meeting. Bill Hut- son seconded and the motion passed.. On February 17th after lunch josh Weiser will talk on Fraud Against Senior Texans. On Thursday, February 12th, Tim Kolton will talk on Estate Planning and the Effect of the New Tax Law on Se- niors. Shelli brought a report from Nona Whitehead on recent great donations to the Senior Center. We how have a top-of-the-line computer, but still need a portable sound system with a lapel mike, con- tainers and shelving for crafts. Wall texturing is completed; need doors and painting. The City has spent about $20,000 on the Center, including $6,000 for flex space, $1,500 for insula- tion, getting materials at cost or donated. Future plans include an invitation to Seniors to have breakfast at Carroll High School. Treasurer, Don Owens reported a Starting Balance of $560 to which $112.75 was added from card sales and $50.64 paid out for the award plaque leaving a current total of $622.11. Concert is free and open to the public. When: Sunday, February 1, 1998 7 to 8 p.m. Where: Bicentennial Park Community Center, 400 N White Chapel Details: The City of Southlake and the Arts Council of Northeast Tarrant County join together to present a musical performance the 1 st Sunday of each month. The MasterWorks Concert Series is designed to offer family entertainment by utilizing the talent of local musicians. Ms. Gibson a local singer has performed with Patty LaBelle and M.C. Hammer. Ms. Gibson performed with M.C. Hammer at the American Music awards and on the Arsenio Hall show. She has performed the National Anthem at Dodger Stadium, L.A. and the L.A. Sports Arena.
