1996-10-08 CITY OF SOUTHLAKE SENIOR ADVISORY COMMISSION October 8, 1996 MINUTES Commission Members Present: Aloha Payne, Dick Johnston, Frances Weiser, John Kelly, Wanda Buschman and Crawford Hall. Member Absent: Jim Goggin Ex Officio Members Present: Rose Hampton, Kelly Bradley and Virginia Muzyka City Staff Present: Administrative Assistant Coy Gray The meeting was called to order at 1:08 p.m. by Chairman Dick Johnston Agenda Item No. 2. Approval of Minutes for 9/10/96 Commission Meeting. Motion was made to approve the minutes with the following change. On agenda item No. 6 change the sentence to read: The Commission will consider a revision of the contract with Metroport Meals on Wheels at the next meeting. Motion: Kelly Second: Hall Ayes: Kelly, Johnston, Weiser, Hall, Bucchman Nayes: none Abstain: Payne Approved: 5-0 Agenda Item No. 3. Administrative Comments. The Commission requested that staff place a bulletin board in the White Chapel room in the Community Center. This bulletin board would be used to keep seniors informed of all senior events in the surrounding communities. The bulletin board would also be used to inform seniors of seniors needing a helping hand due to illness or other problems. Agenda Item No. 4, Consider: AVnroval of Metroport Meals on Wheels contract. Motion was made to table the item until next meeting, so Metroport Meals on Wheels can supply the Commission with additional information requested and to thoroughly review the contract. ..V Motion: Kelly Second: Hall Ayes: Payne, Kelly, Johnston, Weiser, Hall, Bucshman Nayes: none Approved: 6-0 Agenda Item No. 5, Other Items. The Commission discussed making recommendations to P&Z and to City Council that the Commission approves of the concept of senior care assisted facilities. The Commission believes seniors of Southlake should be able to stay in the city, near friends and family, instead of relocating to other communities. The Commission discussed having a couple of the Commission members attend the P&Z Meeting on October 17 to express the Commission's support of the concept of senior care assisted facilities. The Commission also discussed having members speak at the Public Forum at the City Council meeting on October 15 to express support of the concept.
