Subject: Approve Ordinance No. 662-G, 1st Reading, Adopt the 2024
Drought Contingency Plan.
Action
Requested: Approve Ordinance No. 662-G, 1st Reading, Adopt the 2024 Drought
Contingency Plan.
Background
Information: Under Title 30, Chapter 288 of the Texas Administrative Code, cities
must develop and adopt a Drought Contingency Plan for municipal
water suppliers and submit it to the Texas Commission on
Environmental Quality by May 1st. The law further requires wholesale
providers, such as the City of Fort Worth, to share the restrictions
imposed by their plan with their wholesale customers. These plans
must be updated and resubmitted on a five-year cycle. The previous
plan was updated in April 2019. The next update of this plan is due
on May 1, 2024.
In the 2024 Drought Contingency Plan, the City will continue with the
same triggers for each drought stage, as defined by Tarrant Regional
Water District, the City of Fort Worth, and the City of Southlake. The
City will continue the permanent year-round, twice per week
landscape irrigation schedule, as proposed by the 2024 Water
Conservation Plan.
The updates for the 2024 Drought Contingency Plan include
updating communication methods, revising details about water
storage and assets, greater flexibility for moving between drought
stages, and clarified language for actions restricted during drought
stages.
Financial
Considerations: There will be no costs associated with adopting this plan.
