Susan Steinbrecher, and Tim Sabo (Alt#1)
SOUTHLAKE ARTS COUNCIL ABSENT: Secretary Beatriz Terrazas

REGULAR SESSION
1. CALL TO ORDER
Southlake Arts Council Chair Tamara McMillan called the meeting to order at
6:03p.m.
2. PUBLIC FORUM
Chair McMillan opened the Public Forum at 6:01 p.m.
Deanna Kienast from 1518 Main Street spoke to the Arts Council about the
Southlake Presents Art Exhibit and Competition to express desire for more entries
in future years and suggested better marketing efforts to ensure wide -spread
awareness of the program.
Public Forum was closed at 6:07 p.m.
3. CONSENT AGENDA
3A. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES FROM THE AUGUST 22, 2023, SOUTHLAKE

Chair McMillan presented item 3A, approval of the minutes from the
August 22, 2023, Southlake Arts Council meeting.
APPROVED
A motion was made to approve the minutes from the August 22, 2023,
Southlake Arts Council meeting as presented.
Motion: Doyle

Ayes: Doyle, Messing, Viktorin, Steinbrecher, McMillan, Sabo
Nays: None
Abstain: None
Vote: 7-0
Motion passed.
5. DISCUSSION
5A. SOUTHLAKE PRESENTS
Chair McMillian discussed comments made during last meeting's Public Forum
regarding marketing for the annual Southlake Presents exhibit and competition.
The board discussed continuing strong advertisement for next year's exhibit.
Direction to staff: Plan to market event next year.
5B. DALLAS SYMPHONY TRUCK
Arts Council member Messing presented item 5B to the Arts Council for review
and discussion and was available to answer questions.
Direction to Staff: Coordinate time for Terri and Tamara to walk the park with
Terry Lee. Market event, emphasizing people should bring their own chairs.
5C. ART FOR DPS WEST
Assistant to the Director Milenka Lopez updated the Arts Council about the
published Call to Artists for art at DPS West and confirmed that the deadline for
submissions is September 30.
Direction to staff: Organize all final submissions for next meeting.
5D. DOWDLE STUDIOS OPPORTUNITY

Councilmember Kathy Talley updated the Arts Council about initial discussions
with the City Manager about possible collaboration with Dowdle Studios. The next
step is to see if City Council might be interested in pursuing this project in future
fiscal years.
Direction to Staff: Keep on the agenda for next month.
5E. "REMEMBRANCE AND RENEWAL" PLAQUE
Assistant to the Director Milenka Lopez updated the Arts Council on the progress
of the plaque and was available to answer questions.
Direction to staff: Keep Council updated.
5F. PUBLIC ART DISPLAY DISCUSSION
Assistant to the Director Milenka Lopez showed the Arts Council a calendar of all
the yearly public art displays in Town Square. It was discussed that should more
organizations want to display art in Town Hall, the only available time would be
January.
Direction to staff: Look into other potential places for public art displays.
5G. HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS
Chair McMillan discussed having an Arts Council booth at Home for the Holidays
on Saturday, November 18 from 4:30- 8:30 PM. The craft will once again be book
marks and coloring pages.
Direction to staff: Ensure all supplies are ready to go for the event.
5H. PUBLIC ART UPDATES
Deputy Mayor Pro Tern Kathy Talley suggested adding the Public Works Facility
art project to the agenda starting in January. Deputy Mayor Pro Tern Talley also
mentioned the potential for public art with the redevelopment of the Town Hall
Plaza.
Direction to staff: Keep these items in mind for future agendas.
51. APEX UPDATES
Terri Messing presented item 51 to the Arts Council for review and discussion and
was available to answer questions. APEX will have a very full and exciting season
next year.
