Item 6 - Staff Report Case No. SV23-0016 S T A F F R E P O R T September 29th, 2023 CASE NO: SV23-0016 PROJECT: Sign Variance for Valora Medical Group EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Smith Electric & Signs, on behalf of Valora Medical Group, is requesting approval of a variance to Sign Ordinance No. 704, as amended, for an attached building sign located at 1050 E. SH 114 Suite 100, Southlake, Texas 76092. DETAILS: The property is situated at the northwest corner of the N. Carroll Avenue and E. SH 114 intersection. North Country Family Practice has changed to Valora Medical Group, and the applicant is requesting to update their sign accordingly. The applicant is seeking variances for the following: an upper-story sign, sign area, letter height, logo height, nonconforming sign color and the building sign not located on lease/tenant space. Case No. SV23-0016 The requested variances are as follows: Proposed Sign Permitted by Sign Ordinance No. 704, as amended Proposed (SV23-0016) Upper Story Sign prohibited. Sign width not to exceed 75% of sign facade. Letter height - 27.15’’ Logo height- 33.94’’ Sign area- 41.88 S.F. Building Sign not located on lease/tenant space. If the sign has lettering and a logo, the logo may only cover 20 percent of the permitted sign area and may be of any color. The letters must be white, ivory, black, grey, beige, or similar neutral colors Upper story sign Sign width: 15.76’ Letter height- 41.3’’ Logo height- 49.23’’ Sign area- 84.23 S.F. June 3, 2010 – sign permit was issued for an attached building sign for First American Title under SIGN10-0379 October 2, 2013 – sign permit was issued for an attached building sign for Waddell & Reed under SIGN13-1151 Case No. SV23-0016 October 3, 2013 – sign permit was issued for an attached building sign for Tolleson Orthodontics under SIGN13-1166 September 21, 2021: City Council approved a sign variance for Bloomfield Homes to allow an upper story attached sign that does not align with the tenant’s lease space.
