Item 9A - Staff ReportCase No. SV23-0014 S T A F F R E P O R T August 29th, 2023 CASE NO: SV23-0014 PROJECT: Sign Variance for MPP Legal EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Priority Signs and Graphics, on behalf of MPP Legal, is requesting approval of two variances to Sign Ordinance No. 704, as amended, for an attached upper story building sign and sign logo height. DETAILS: Priority Signs is seeking two variances for MPP Legal at 1203 S White Chapel Blvd Suite #250. The first variance is for the upper story placement of the attached sign on the north elevation. The second variance pertains to the overall logo height, with a proposed increase from the permitted 20’’ to 22.5’’. The sign's location remains within their lease space without affecting the first- floor business. At the Sign Board meeting on August 17th, 2023, the Board recommended approval (6-0), however, the Board also recommended that the applicant provide City Council with an alternative option without the vertical line in the logo. In 1999, a development monument sign was permitted. In 2002, attached building signs were permitted at this location for Timarron Professional Eye Care and De La Porte & Assoc. Two (2) large directory signs and a small directory for each building were permitted for the development in 2003. In 2003, Two (2) large directory signs and a small directory for each building were permitted for the development. Variances on Neighboring Building at 1205 S. White Chapel: In 2019, City Council Approved (7-0) subject to the Staff Report dated May 14, 2019, granting the following variances: - To allow an upper story sign for Peabody Law Firm that exceeds maximum logo height and is located on a façade that is not congruent with their lease space. The maximum logo height allowed for this location is 20 inches. The applicant is requesting a logo that measures approximately 25.8 inches. Also noting: Only sign facing Continental Blvd. will be permitted. Case No. SV23-0014 SIGN BOARD: August 17th, 2023: Approved (6-0), subject to the Staff Report dated August 11th, 2023. Recommend applicant provide City Council with alternative option without the line in the logo. CITY COUNCIL: STAFF COMMENTS: City Council approval of the request does not eliminate the requirement for a sign application submittal prior to sign installation.
