SOUTHLAKE SOUTHLAKE ARTS COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES: AUGUST 22, 2023 LOCATION: The Marq Southlake Champions Club- Hall of Fame Rooms 285 Shady Oaks Blvd. Southlake, Texas 76092 TIME: 6:00 p.m. SOUTHLAKE ARTS COUNCIL PRESENT: Chair Tamara McMillan, Secretary Beatriz Terrazas, and Southlake Arts Council members; Julie Doyle, Terri Messing, Alison Viktorin, Susan Steinbrecher, and Tim Sabo (Alt#1) SOUTHLAKE ARTS COUNCIL ABSENT: None. STAFF PRESENT: Community Services Director Chris Tribble CITY COUNCIL MEMBER PRESENT: Council Member Kathy Talley REGULAR SESSION 1. CALL TO ORDER Southlake Arts Council Chair Tamara McMillan called the meeting to order at 6:00p.m. P�1�1-1�[y7�7Li�1ul Chair McMillan opened the Public Forum at 6:01 p.m. Deanna Kienast from 1518 Main Street spoke to the Arts Council about the Southlake Presents Art Exhibit and Competition to express desire for more entries in future years and suggested better marketing efforts to ensure wide -spread awareness of the program. Public Forum was closed at 6:07 p.m. 3. CONSENT AGENDA 3A. APPROVED A motion was made to approve the minutes from the May 23, 2023, Southlake Arts Council meeting as presented. Motion: Doyle Second: Terrazas Ayes: Terrazas, Doyle, Viktorin, Steinbrecher, McMillan, Sabo Nays: None Abstain: Messing Vote: 6-0 Motion passed. 3B. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES FROM THE JUNE 27, 2023, SOUTHLAKE ARTS COUNCIL MEETING Chair McMillan presented item 3B, approval of the minutes from the June 27, 2023, Southlake Arts Council meeting. APPROVED A motion was made to approve the minutes from the June 27, 2023, Southlake Arts Council meeting as presented. Motion: Steinbrecher Second: Doyle Ayes: Viktorin, Steinbrecher, McMillan Nays: None Abstain: Terrazas, Walker, Doyle, Messing Vote: 3-0-4 Motion passed. 4. DISCUSSION 5A. FALL EXHIBIT Director Chris Tribble updated the Arts Council on the upcoming Fall Exhibit. Confirmed that a graphic for the event would be sent to APEX ASAP. Direction to staff: Confirm hanging time with Arts Council and provide a marketing graphic to APEX ASAP. CELEBRATE SOUTHLAKE Director Chris Tribble updated the Arts Council on the upcoming Celebrate Southlake event and confirmed that booth supplies had been purchased. Direction to staff: ensure supplies are set up at the Arts Council booth. 5C. DALLAS SYMPHONY TRUCK Director Chris Tribble presented item 5C to the Arts Council for review and discussion and was available to answer questions. Direction to Staff: Coordinate time for Terri and Tamara to walk the park with Mike Reasoner. Market event. 5D. ART FOR DPS WEST Director Chris Tribble updated the Arts Council about the published Call to Artists for art at DPS West and confirmed that the deadline for submissions is September 30. Direction to staff: Ensure Arts Council sees all future Call to Artists. 5E. DOWDLE STUDIOS OPPORTUNITY Chair McMillan and Councilmember Kathy Talley updated the Arts Council about their discussion with Dowdle Studios. Arts Council displayed interest in the project but noted it needed further discussion and potential future budget considerations. Direction to Staff: Keep on the agenda for next month. 5F. "REMEMBRANCE AND RENEWAL" PLAQUE Director Chris Tribble updated the Arts Council on the process for ordering a plaque for the "Remembrance and Renewal' art piece. Staff is suggesting an aluminum casting plaque. Interest for a commemorative event by the statue in the future was brought up. Direction to staff: Keep Council updated. 5G. APEX UPDATES Terri Messing presented item 5G to the Arts Council for review and discussion and was available to answer questions. APEX will have a very full and exciting season next year.
