Item 4C - MemoItem 4C Page 1 of 2 M E M O R A N D U M (March 21, 2023) To: Shana Yelverton, City Manager From: Rob Cohen, Director of Public Works Subject: Authorize expenditures with TransCore for the installation of traffic signal network communications in an amount not to exceed $75,000. Action Requested: Authorize expenditures with TransCore for the installation of traffic signal network communications in an amount not to exceed $75,000 Background Information: The City of Southlake Traffic Division is responsible for the maintenance and operation of 7 signalized intersections, city wide pavement markings, over 6,000 traffic signs, crosswalk flashers and school flashers. A recent project leveraged technology as a force multiplier, allowing technicians to monitor, operate and troubleshoot school zone flashers once tied into a single communication network. A similar project was planned for the city’s signalized intersections. The functionality provided by the new system will continue leveraging technology to improve service and safety as technicians will be able to monitor, operate and troubleshoot signal issues remotely. The network will consist of radios and network switches for all city owned traffic signals and will also require equipment to help bridge the network on city owned water towers. The field equipment was procured by the Traffic Division in FY2022 will be installed by TransCore. TransCore is the authorized installer of the equipment purchased and they have extensive experience implementing similar transportation systems for TxDOT’s Fort Worth District. Financial Considerations: The City’s purchasing policy is met through Local Government Code 252.022.2 exemption for health and safety. Funding for this project is in the FY 2023 Red Light Camera Fund budget.
