Agenda Item #1, Call to Order Meeting called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Buddy Luce. Agenda Item #2, Approval of January 11, 1994 Meeting MINUTES The approval of the January 11, 1994 meeting MINUTES was tabled as the minutes were not available for the committee's review. Agenda Item #3, Administrative Comments Bill Branum and Curtis Hawk are attending a School Board meeting tonight and are not present for this meeting. Stephen Apple announced that the Joint Use Gym/Rec Center Project and other projects would be presented to the SPDC on February 14 for their approval; then forward to City Council. He asked if someone from the Park Board and the JUC could be present in show of support for the approval of the projects. Agenda Item #4, Joint Use Agreement between City of Southlake and Carroll ISD on Approved Projects Tom Elgin briefed the committee on the status of the Agreement. Wayne Olson has advised Curtis Hawk that the Agreement should be complete by next week. Agenda Item #5, Update on Current Projects Ted Glowacki presented flow charts on projects. Joint Utilization Committee Meeting February 8, 1994 Page 2 BASKETBALL COURT Concrete Bid No bids were received on the concrete for the basketball court; will re -bid this weekend with revised specs. Specs were originally written for twice as much as needed to spend. Met with post -tension company and their engineer will build the specifications. Steel girder around perimeter of court and dirt work will be eliminated from specs. Installation of Lights The lights at the basketball court are expected to be installed by February 18. The additional bids received for the installation of the lights is considerably cheaper than expected so should save some money. Cost is now down to $2,195. BASEBALL FIELD Installation of Lights The lights at the baseball field are expected to be completed the same time as the basketball court, February 18. Backstop Canopy The backstop will be completed by Friday. Sod Work The entire field will be sod by February 25. Dugouts The dugouts will be poured by February 18. Mr. Glowacki stated that costs are well within budget. Gate at Middle School The gate has been installed at the middle school. 24 31 Joint Utilization Committee Meeting February 8, 1994 Page 3 Agenda Item #6, Joint Use - Gymnasium/Recreation Center Kyle Bacon (SHWC) and Warren Anderson (JCL, Inc.) presented design plans on attached gymnasium. Plans were designed to include a regulation size gym court, bleachers for 380 seats, toilets based on occupancy, and a control room (an activity room was eliminated due to funds). However, since there is now access to the new gym, the bleachers may be eliminated and therefore, some of the square footage may be taken off, which would mean that it is possible to include an activity room after all. The activity room would be approximately 700 sq. ft. (about a classroom size). May keep enough space to have a two or three rows of bleacher, which would seat about 75-100 people. Original plans called for a "stand alone" gym; plans now are for attached design. Parking space for the gym was mentioned to be adjacent to the gym, assuming Proposition 3 passed. The architects will tie -down the parking before the SPDC meeting presentation. The committee discussed various aspects of the design, including the doors, surface of the gym (rubberized), crank -down goals, additional uses for court such as volleyball sleeves, access to existing dressing rooms, and possibility of including showers facilities. The JUC agreed the consensus is that during the day there are adequate showers available for the kids and at night, the committee does not think that additional shower facilities are needed at this time. There is room to expand should it become necessary. The shower facilities may be included in Phase II due to funds. The architects told the committee that it is important to start thinking about what the needs will be if a Phase II is developed. Steve Apple suggested that someone from the school or SPDC should look at the plans and approve the design. Mr. Apple briefed the committee on the SPDC and when funds will be available. Agenda Item #7, Potential Joint Utilization Projects Buddy Luce said the committee needs to look beyond the recreational scope, perhaps vehicle/maintenance joint use project. Next committee meeting will be held March 8, 1994. Agenda Item #9: Adjournment. Meeting was adjourned.
