Existing North Elevation (Proposed location of the Mural)
On June 9, 2022, the Sign Board considered the sign mural labeled “Artwork
Option #1” (The Sign Board did not review “Artwork Option #2). The Sign Board
recommended approval of the option #1 (4-2). Also, the Sign Board
recommended the following:
• meet with the Southlake Arts Council prior to the City Council meeting and
present the proposed mural for feedback;
• present Council an option which reduces the size of the mural;
• provide Council close up images of the mural;
• provide Council information on the maintenance of the mural by the
existing tenant; and
• provide Council information on removal of the mural by the tenant upon
expiration of the lease.
At the time of packet preparation, the applicant had not submitted the reduced
option, close ups, and maintenance and removal information to staff. However,
staff expects this information prior to the Council meeting.
The Southlake Arts Council held a meeting on June 28, 2022 to discuss and make
a recommendation on the mural. At this meeting, the artist presented Option 1 (the
original concept presented to the Sign Board) and a new Option 2. The Southlake
Arts Council recommended (6-0) the second mural option (Option 2) for the City
Council consideration. The (draft) minutes from the Arts Council meeting are
included in the packet.
