Item 4G City of Southlake Values: Integrity ♦ Innovation ♦ Accountability ♦ Commitment to Excellence ♦ Teamwork M E M O R A N D U M July 22, 2022 To: Shana Yelverton, City Manager From: Major Youngblood, Assistant to the City Manager Subject: Item 4G: Resolution No: 22-022, dissolving and the Mayor’s Alliance for Unity and Culture and the Community Engagement Committee to establish the Alliance for Community Engagement. Action Requested: City Council approval of Resolution No. 22-022 Background Information: The purpose of this item is to seek City Council approval of a resolution to dissolve the Mayor’s Alliance for Unity and Culture and the Community Engagement Committee to establish the Alliance for Community Engagement. City Council approved the Mayor’s Alliance for Unity and Culture through a resolution in March of 2019 to strengthen, bridge, and foster a diverse and inclusive Southlake. In December of 2013, City Council approved a resolution to establish the Community Engagement Committee. The committee was established to provide channels for the Southlake city government to inform, involve, and collaborate with residents and businesses. The committee oversees the improvement of the SPIN program and facilitates the monthly SPIN Town Hall Meetings. The Mayor’s Alliance for Unity and Culture and the Community Engagement Committee share similar responsibilities. Both the Mayor’s Alliance for Unity and Culture and the Citizen Engagement Committee are charged with overseeing engagement within the community. Both committees promote opportunities for citizens to feel like they have a voice and a place within the community. Both committees encourage the community to engage in issues. The Alliance for Community Engagement would streamline the work of the Mayor’s Alliance for Unity and Culture and the Citizen Engagement Committee into one committee.
