Item 4BCITY OF SOUTH LAKE MEMORANDUM May 10, 2022 To: Shana Yelverton, City Manager From: Amy Shelley, City Secretary Item 4B Subject: Approve Resolution No. 22-014, Appointing a Mayor Pro Tem and Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Action Requested: Approve Resolution No. 22-014, Appointing a Mayor Pro Tem and Deputy Mayor Pro Tem for a one-year term. Background Information: Pursuant to Section 2.07 of the City Charter, the Mayor shall, with the approval of the Council, appoint one Councilmember to the position of Mayor Pro Tem and one Councilmember to the position of Deputy Mayor Pro Tem, who both shall serve in for a period of one year. The City Charter requires this action at the first meeting after each general election and/or run-off election. Currently Councilmember Chad Patton serves as Mayor Pro Tem and Councilmember Randy Williamson serves as Deputy Mayor Pro Tem. The Mayor Pro Tem shall perform the duties of the Mayor in case of absence or disability of the Mayor. The Deputy Mayor Pro Tem shall perform the duties of the Mayor in case of absence or disability of both the Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem. Financial Considerations: None Supporting Documents: Resolution No. 22-014 RESOLUTION NO. 22-014 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTHLAKE, TEXAS, APPOINTING A MAYOR PRO TEM AND A DEPUTY MAYOR PRO TEM PURSUANT TO CHAPTER 2, SECTION 2.07 OF THE HOME RULE CHARTER, AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. Whereas, a Home Rule Charter was approved by the voters in a duly called Charter election on April 4, 1987; and, Whereas, Section 2.07 of the Charter allows for the appointment of a Mayor Pro Tem who shall perform the duties of the Mayor in case of the absence or disability of the Mayor; and, Whereas, on January 21, 1995, a Charter Amendment Election was held in which Section 2.07 was amended to include the appointment of a Deputy Mayor Pro Tem who shall perform the duties of Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem in case of the absence or disability of the Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem; and, Whereas, Section 2.07 of the Charter provides for the appointment of a Mayor Pro Tem and Deputy Mayor Pro Tem; and, Whereas, the term of office for the Mayor Pro Tem and the Deputy Mayor Pro Tem shall be one year, according to Section 2.07; and, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTHLAKE, TEXAS, THAT: Section 1. All the findings in the preamble are found to be true and correct and the City Council does hereby incorporate said findings into the body of this resolution as if copied in its entirety. Section 2. Effective immediately, the Mayor has appointed, with approval of the City Council, Councilmember to serve as Mayor Pro Tem and Councilmember to serve as Deputy Mayor Pro Tem; and both shall hold office for one year. Section 3. This resolution is hereby effective upon passage and approval by the City Council. PASSED and APPROVED on this, the 17t" day of May 2022.
