CALL TO ORDER — Katherine Bennett at 6:41 p.m. 2. CONSENT A. APPROVE MINUTES FROM THE REGULAR SOUTHLAKE LIBRARY BOARD MEETING HELD DECEMBER 8, 2021 APPROVED A motion was made to approve the minutes from the December 8, 2021, Southlake Library Board meeting. LIBRARIAN'S REPORT Report for 1st quarter: Print circulation is up 8%, digital is up 10%. Overall, total circulation is up 8%. Traffic numbers are up 32%. CloudLibrary is down 15%, BookFlix is down 27%, Flipster is down 23%, BrainFuse is down 21%. CreativeBug and Ancestry are new so there are no numbers for comparison. Ancestry is getting good use response, Creativebug is showing slower growth. A question was asked to whom the library reports its statistics. Statistics are not reported to City Council but are reported to Texas State Library and Archives Commission as part of the accreditation process. Discussion ensued. Cynthia will follow up with a performance graphic for website. Computer use is down, study room use is up 92%. The library is seeing a return of people use the library for work and study throughout the day. Adult program attendance has not been what it was pre-pandemic. Youth programming has rebounded. Volunteer hours were down. Notary requests are up. AARP is beginning and calls are already coming in for appointments. The library would like to see a stronger response in digital use. 4. DISCUSSION A. Library Board Ordinance and By-Laws City Librarian Pfledderer informed the Board Section 4A of the Library Board Ordinance details the Library Board duties and responsibilities. The Board has a role to advise the City Council in all matter pertaining to library planning and programming and decisions being made about the facility, as well as long term capital improvement projects. Members of the Board can be expected to be involved with the task force for the planning and design of the new library facility. B. Collection Development Policy City Librarian Pfledderer shared the collection development at the request of the Chair. The library is fortunate to have not had many challenges to the book collection. Ms. Pfledderer recalled only two in her tenure, both items from the children's collection. The form for challenging a book in the collection is at the circulation desk and any challenges are directed to the City Librarian for review. Ms. Pfledderer detailed the steps of the review process. C. Remote Locker System The Pitney Bowes remote lockers will tentatively be installed 02.07.2022 in the Timarron subdivision. There will be a separate return bin located by the lockers. Delivery/Returns will be done three times a week. LIBRARY FOUNDATION UPDATE Board member Burr shared that the Library Foundation now has a Facebook page, and a website will be created. The Foundation is looking for a new attorney. Ms. Burr shared information regarding donation and grant issues with 501 C easy form. Articles of incorporation and by-laws have been drafted. 6. NEW BUSINESS Not new business but Will Doby shared an idea for programming: Financial Literacy for Teens. 7. PUBLIC FORUM Chair Bennett opened public forum at 8:03 p.m. to ask anyone wishing to speak to come forward. There being no public, the forum was closed at 8:03 p.m. 8. ADJOURNMENT The next meeting will be scheduled February 23, 2022. The meeting was adjourned.
