CALL TO ORDER— Chair Lori Burr at 6:34 p.m. 2. CONSENT A. APPROVE MINUTES FROM THE REGULAR SOUTHLAKE LIBRARY BOARD MEETING HELD MAY 26, 2021 APPROVED A motion was made to approve the minutes from the May 26, 2021 Southlake Library Board meeting. NEW LIBRARY UPDATE City Librarian Pfledderer shared with the Board information that was presented to the City Council. The library opened Sept. 26, 2001. The main library has 10,240 sqft. and the administrative space on the 2nd floor has 1500 sqft. for staff offices. The library averages 125,000 visitors a year and the physical collection is around 42,000 items. Approximately 3,000 of the 150,000 items in cloudLibrary is owned by the Southlake Library. The 2019 annual circulation was 422,000 items and program attendance was approximately 36,000. The current library budget is a little over $841 ,000. Site evaluation in 2016 recommended the library be a standalone facility. Dedicated spaces for all age groups are a goal. Comfortable lounge seating and study areas are also popular demands. Business resources, technology training resources, and staff offices to maximize workflow are also priorities, as well as convenient parking with easy walkways to accommodate guests. The collection could average approximately 81,000 items. Hidell & Associates is under contract to survey the community and provide recommendations for the facility and site requirements. Hidell will also provide construction estimates. Hidell will work to develop rendering to take to the Council. The goal is to have the facility open in 2025. B. LIBRARY SURVEY UPDATE The 2021 Library Survey will run Aug. 9-30 to gather feedback on what the community wants from Southlake Library to meet their needs. City Librarian Pfledderer asked the Board for their suggestions and ideas to help promote the survey. Imagine That! Is the marketing theme. C. LIBRARY FOUNDATION DISCUSSION Board Chair Burr led discussion about creating a library foundation for fundraising. A committee is the first thing that needs to be created. No more than three board members can be on the committee. Board member Doby is interested, as well as Board members Bennett and Darr. The library will promote the search for volunteers through the eblast when the Foundation is ready. The Board talked about library tours for inspiration. A discussion was held about neighboring communities which have library designs and attributes that could be used as consideration for Southlake's design. 4. NEW BUSINESS Chair Burr asked if anyone had any new business. No new business. PUBLIC FORUM Chair Burr opened public forum at 7:38 p.m. to ask anyone wishing to speak to come forward. The forum was closed at 7:39 p.m. 7. ADJOURNMENT The next meeting will be scheduled August 25, 2021. The meeting was adjourned.
