Item 6D - H-E-B responses to P&Z Commission motion1. Provide the make and manufacturer of the generators:
a. The Generators are a patented design by Enchanted Rock. Enchanted Rock utilizes the
manufactures below to produce the generators:
i. Generac Power Systems, Inc. — Enchanted Rock 21.91- Natural Gas Generator
ii. Power Custom Electrical Products Corp — Enchanted Rock 21.91- Natural Gas
Generator
2. Better define the definition of standby versus backup:
Standby Generators -
A standby generator is designed to automatically provide electricity during a power
outage. It is permanently installed at the home or place of business. The system — in
standby mode — constantly monitors utility power 24/7/365. The automatic transfer
switch (ATS) will detect a power failure and will send a signal that automatically
disconnects from utility feed wires, connects generator feed wires, and starts the
generator engine. The home or business will receive power from the generator
smoothly and with minimal interruption similar to operating from utility power. When
utility power is restored, the ATS will switch back to utility feed wires and return itself to
standby mode.
b. Backup Generators -
A backup generator, also known as portable generator, does not offer automatic outage
detection. When utility power fails, the business owner or homeowner must start the
generator's engine manually. Power is then available to selected appliances by setting
up extension cords directly from the backup generator to the needed appliance.
3. A definition of exactly how and when you would exercise the generators to ensure that in the
event that you have to have the generator kick on, it in fact will kick on and accomplish what
you want to accomplish:
a. The generators provide backup/emergency power to our end use customer when the
power grid is experiencing an outage. When the power grid is available, the generators
provide support to the grid during periods of high need or emergency situations. This
can occur approximately 2%-5% of the hours of the year.
