SOUTHLAKE, GREEN
DAY
Citizens and community leaders are gearing up for the second annual $outhlake
Green Day. Sponsors want participants to Get Yout Green On! and be inspired
about how to take care of the environment at the local level. Southlake Green
Day is the premier green event to learn about the many ways to invest in a
sustainable future, and improve daily living by going green.
Southlake Green Day is free and slated for:
Southlake Town Square
Rustin Park
March 27, 2010
10:00 AM -5:00 PM
Set up- 8:00 AM
Southlake Green Day will feature vendors, manufacturers and other businesses
presenting products and informatidn about going green. Also planned are guest
speakers and interactive "how to" presentations about how the Southlake
community and surrounding areas can go the extra mile to take care of the
environment.
Residents can expect to see the latest fuel-efficient cars, what and how to
recycle, howto compost and grow organic gardens, what's new in chemical -free
dry cleaning, and sustainable decorating ideas for the home. There will be
entertainment, drawings for free bicycles, and a paper recycling drive for
students from Kindergarten through the 6sh grade.
Last year we contributed more than two tons of paper to be recycled. We want
to teach kids that they can make a difference and make smart choices for their
future," says Audra Lewandowski, event founder. The goal of Southlake Green
Day is to raise awareness about the many opportunities available to do
something good for our environment.
We're excited that the Carroll Independent School District (CISD) is going to
participate again this year and we're hoping to get other school districts involved
as well. It's important that we are able to educate our children so they can inherit
a healthy community," says Lewandowski. "The theme, Get Your Green On,
emphasizes the importance of personal accountability in a fun, light-hearted way.
Our objective is to energize residents to action. We can all do something, a little
something, that goes a long way. Our goal is to host this event every year until
every Southlake family has all the information they need to go green."
