2007-024RESOLUTION NO. 07-024 OFFICIAL A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTHLAKE, TEXAS, AUTHORIZING AND ENDORSING THE APPLICATION FOR FUNDING FROM THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL PROGRAM FOR VARIOUS SIDEWALKS, CROSSWALKS, SIGNAGE, AND SAFETY EDUCATION PROGRAMS IN THE CITY. RECORD Whereas, the City of Southlake is committed to improving pedestrian and bicycle transportation within the city with the development of the Sidewalk Master Plan including the city's Safe Routes to School Plan; Whereas, the City of Southlake concurs with efforts to make areas in and around school areas safer for children to walk and ride their bikes through trail construction and related improvements, and WHEREAS, the City of Southlake recognizes that encouraging alternative modes of transportation has a positive effect on the health, safety, and welfare of its citizens; Whereas, the Texas Department of Transportation offers a "Safe Routes to School" Program in which a certain amount of state funding is earmarked for trail, signal, crossing and other pedestrian -related improvements specifically designed to improve non -motorized travel to and from local schools; and Whereas, the City of Southlake is planning to submit a "Safe Routes to School Program" grant application to complete critical sidewalk connections and related improvements adjacent to Carroll Elementary, Old Union Elementary, Rockenbaugh Elementary, Carroll Middle, Durham Elementary, Florence Elementary, Durham Intermediate, Eubanks Intermediate, Dawson Middle, and as shown in TABLE 1 and Exhibit A; and Whereas, the proposed projects are located near schools and in and around the City's most populous neighborhoods where many children walk or ride their bikes to school; and Whereas, the City of Southlake has requested that the Carroll Independent School District sponsor its "Safe Routes to School Program" grant request. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTHLAKE, TEXAS THAT: SECTION 1. The application for funding from the Texas Department of Transportation Safe Routes to School program is hereby authorized and endorsed for the following projects (See Exhibit A for 1 location maps): School Carroll Elementary School 1705 W. Continental Old Union Elementary School 1050 S. Carroll Ave. Rockenbaugh Elementary School 301 Byron Nelson Parkway Carroll Middle School 1101 E. Dove Various Campuses 1. Carroll Elem — 3; 2. Old Union Elem — 4; 3. Dawson Middle — 2; 4. Rockenbaugh Elem — 2; 5. Carroll Middle — 4; 6. Florence Elem — 2; 7. Durham Elem — 2 Project Safety Town Table 1 Recommended Infrastructure Projects Project Sidewalk Length 1. 4' Sidewalk along the west side of 584 feet S.
