A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTHLAKE,
TEXAS, ACCEPTING A RECOMMENDATION FOR THE PROVISION OF A
30 SECOND MESSAGE TO PARENTS AT REGULAR CITY COUNCIL AND
PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION MEETINGS AND ALL OTHER
CITY COUNCIL SPONSORED PUBLIC MEETINGS FOR THE NEXT YEAR;
AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the citizens of Southlake are confronted with the societal issue of drug and
alcohol abuse among the youth of our community and desire to take positive steps to address this
problem; and,
WHEREAS, the parents in our Community can have a tremendous impact on our youth
and their activities if properly and accurately informed; and,
WHEREAS, past and present efforts at informing parents regarding the seriousness of
the problem in our City have been less than successful and further efforts at education are
required; now,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SOUTHLAKE, TEXAS, THAT:
Section 1. The efforts of the Joint Drug and Alcohol Awareness Committee to educate
the citizens of Southlake regarding the drug and alcohol problems facing our
youth are recognized and appreciated.
Section 2. The City Council, in cooperation with the Carroll Independent School District
Board of Trustees and the Joint Drug and Alcohol Awareness Committee, will
include the Committee's "30 Second Message" at all regular City Council and
Planning and Zoning Commission Meetings and all other City Council
sponsored public meetings for the next year.
Section 3. This resolution is effective upon passage by the City Council.
